Recoil and scopes, are there issues with this?

Tater, if I remember, I think the "Golden Image" line doesn't have Lifetime Warranty.  You may wanna check it, as I could be wrong.

Dwood, I think you'll find that no matter the weight of the scope, that erector tube, suspension, and the optics are gonna get a workout.  I believe the thicker tubing would be more for beefing up the erector adjustment and suspension, as well as the torquing required to mount the scope, and avoid distortion.

You are right! What I was commenting on was the effect that the weight of the scope has on what the components 'inside' must withstand. And I agree that a scope of any weight on any spring airgun must put up with a lot!

A previous email indicated that a heavier scope took the worst beating. Not so! However, a heavier scope "will" put more stress on the "mount" system.

I have had good luck with the springer rated scopes that Flying Dragon sells.   

Have experienced and heard very good things about alot of the new stuff coming from China.   The ones that are rated as such usually can handle springer recoil.  Do the scope (and yourself) a favor and lube tune the gun, of course.

I have also had very good luck with Leapers, the lifetime guaranteed TS platforms, that are airgun specific and have the 7yd parallax adjustments. 

My next one will be airgun rated and small, like a shotgun/pistol type, or a bug buster.  I really dislike carrying around a 7.5 lb gun, and then adding another 14-18 ounces to one.  Not bad from the porch, not good on foot.

I have heard good things from the SunOptics as well.

I was in a gun shop today and the guy behind the counter was talking to a couple of guys about several different high-dollar scopes. They noticed me standing there and I asked about airgun-rated scopes.

The salesman looked at me like I had two heads, when I said an airgun could break even very expensive scopes. He went on to brag that even a .460 Weatherby Magnum couldn't break those scopes. Supposedly, that round generates something like 125 ft/lb of recoil - OUCH !

I told him about the reverse, double-recoil of spring-powered air rifles and asked him what would happen if they mounted those $1200 - $1500 scopes BACKWARDS on that .460 Weatherby . . . He got a little testy and I suggested that he call a manufacturer or two and ask them about it.

He did, and was on the phone a few minutes. When he came back out, he was much calmer, as they had probably told him what I said was right. He mumbled a few things about him not selling "toys" and changed the subject back to the two guys.

While he was on the phone, the two guys were talking with me. They were pretty interested in airguns and I gave them the link to GTA. I hope they will join the Forum !

I left the shop without getting to really look at anything, but it was worth it - LOL !
