Use a heat gun on low, hit it with a steel brush, followed with a die of the same pitch.

I heat it with a torch quickly then use a wire brush.

There's a metric one too.  I use them all the time to ID them little airgun screws, mainly because I lose so many and have to replace them.  Not intended for removing loctite, but should work for cleaning up threads after the wire wheel.

Shoot, I've been digging in with my thumbnail all this time, and I'm not even a picker, but now I'll try a wire wheel.
