Some of you know me as a regular over at the German Airgun Gate and though I still count springers as my favorite air guns to shoot, I do shoot PCP, especially Daystate. I rarely visited the PCP Gate in the past, though, because it was just too overwhelming to dig through the hundreds of posts to find something that related to me and the PCP guns I shoot. I didn't even know there was a new organization to the PCP Gate until I saw it today. Love the new setup, so here I am.
I have an interesting relationship with Daystate. There was a time about ten plus years back when I seriously thought about going all springer and dumping the old Benjamin Disco and Marauder I had, pump and all. Yeah, the Benjamins showed me the potential of PCP, but I didn't see enough difference over my beloved springers to mess with PCP.
That changed about ten plus years, ago, when my husband and I decided to attend an estate sale being held for an old gentleman who was a competitive target shooter back in the 90s and 2000s. He could no longer shoot for health reasons and was selling off all his air guns. Listed for auction was a Daystate air rifle. I was only vaguely familiar with the Daystate brand and couldn't find much info on the model listed, though I did my best. Long story, short, we went to the auction and came home with this one. It's the gun that I blame/credit for not going all springer in my shooting.
It's a Daystate CR97, a vintage 90s 177 cal target PCP rifle that many Daystate fans don't even know exists. It is truly a magnificent rifle with its English walnut stock and superb match trigger. Accuracy? Although my Huntsman Revere is no slouch in the 50 yard accuracy department, the CR 97 is consistently better. After all, the CR97 is a target rifle and dedicated bench rifle, not an all purpose rifle like the Huntsman Revere.
Oh, I love my Revere, too. The CR 97 is a beast in terms of size and weight. It's all old granny me can manage to carry out to the yard. That's why I also have the Hunstman Revere. Never fails to impress.
These days the scuba tanks have been retired and we now do all our fills with a Hill EC 3000 compressor. Don't miss the scuba tanks and sure don't mis the pumping. Life is good.
And yeah, when it comes to just grab an airgun and go out in the yard and shoot, nine times out of ten, it's with one of my German springers. When I want to go deluxe and make it easy to shoot tiny groups at 50 yards, though, it's a Daystate.
