Stock refinishing

I need to strip and refinish the walnut stock on a  FWB 602 stock and would like a recommendation on a good stripper to remove the old finish.  I could sand, but am afraid I would loose or round over some of the well defined edges.. I think a solvent based stripper would be better than some of the newer water based types as the solvent based versions will not raise grain like an aqeous base.

I used paint stripper and then wrapped in plastic wrap, let it sit.  Then scrape and scrape, clean with denatured alcohol.

Having used a lot of Paint Strippers though the years either on wood or metal, I have depended on
Klean Strip Aircraft Paint Remover more than any other I have tried.
 You can find in almost any Auto-parts or Hardware stores.

How bad is the original finish? Is it flaking? They use a really thick clear coat of high quality on those guns.

I recently redid a p70jr and the stock looked at first like it needed redoing. Lots of fading and yellowing.

I ended up wet sanding it, polishing with fine automotive polish and waxing. Turned out looking better than new.

No flaking, but when I ordered the gun I knew it had some issues, needed resealing for starters so barrel and action is out for delivery to David Slade for reworking today. The seller had sent plenty of pictures and stock showed a lot of tiny dents along both sides of the rail on bottom of forearm.  Some rather light sanding with 220 w/d sandpaper removed those nicely as the wood was a bit proud of the rail.  That finish is hard and difficult to remove with what I have, sandpaper, lacquer thinner and steel wool, so want something more aggressive.   I'm hoping to have it finished before I get the working parts back in 4-5 weeks.

Jeff, I have always been satisfied with the results I got using Casey stock finish.  (Picture below)
I did a Discovery about 11 years ago that my brother is using now.  Nothing has been done to it since that time.  I sanded the old finish until all was removed.  The final sanding was done with 00 Steel Wool.  If I recall correctly, I put three coats with sanding before each coat.  I used my hand to apply the Casey - no brush, no rag, nothing except the fingers.
You can find that stuff online, at Academy, and at Walmart.  A bottle like in the picture goes for about $12.
