I put that HW moderator on both my HW50 20 cal and my HW50 in 177, but mostly for the sake of reducing cocking effort via lengthening the barrel/providing a larger hand grip. This was after a surgery when I was on a lifting restriction and still trying to get my upper body strength back. The moderator worked great for that, so I left it on both rifles since I'm just a target shooter and not carrying the rifles out in the field. The moderators have definitely made both HW50s more enjoyable to shoot. On the other hand, with the moderator attached, you do get a very long and very different handling HW50. You do lose that wonderful HW50 handling. As for noise, yes, there is some reduction, but a moderator on a springer won't reduce piston noise, of course. What it does do is to muffle the shot noise by reducing the crack into a softer thump. Still louder than one of my PCPs with a moderator, but it does muffle shot noise.
Yes they work! Yes moderators work better on PCP's. These are some of the best moderators out there. How sensative do you need to be? When I shoot my target guns in my apartment I use a moderator and crank up the music! -Y

As Yogi, says, how much noise reduction do you need? This whole noise issue is so hard to pin down. From experience, I know that what I hear when shooting a particular gun can be quite different than what my husband hears when I've asked him to stand off to the side about 10 yards. For what it's worth, I'll we'll try the test again and let you know. Where are you located? Maybe I could send you one of mine and let you try it. Be glad to do that.
