The Joy of Handpumping your PCPs

I have to pump up my Lonestar to 230 bar.  Now I just watch a show and pump during commercials.

Sorry, but PCP in my book, is one big expensive PIA. I'll stick with my Sheridans, Springers or Co2.

If you not looking for power I agree with you.

PCP just brings you to a completely different level where no springers/pumps/co2 are even remotely close in FPE

it's a total different world altogether

If I want that kind of "fpe", I'll grab my 45/70 Marlin. In my book, AG's are 50-60 yd shooters. If I want to shoot something farther than that than I'll grab a PB. Besides, some of the PCP's are as loud if not louder than a .22LR. My Benjamin pumper at 10 pumps almost as loud as my .22 and only shoots half as far.

I think 50-60 yards it's too much, never shoot that far , the report of a powerfull AirGun is nowhere near the report of a PB.

Lots and lots of advantages in PCP compared to PBs.

But, hey we are talking handpumps here, wander what made you want to come in and tell every PCP owner/shooter that he's supid

i like the convience of filling from a tank when shooting a lot, but i would like to have a pump. never know if/when things might go "south" and getting a tank filled may not be an option. rendering my pcp's useless. if i had a pump they would still be good to go.

Shot per shot, it's actually more of an effort shooting a Benjamin Pumper than handpumping a 50 FPE PCP, if you go down to 15 FPE  PCP, the effort pumping a Benjamin 392 is considerably more.

Betcha not many people put that one in prospective

Usually 1 pump / 12 fpe shot, more power - more pumps. 12 fpe is enough for small game (rabbit, birds) up to 40-50yards.

With rkr on this one. grew up with Sheridans and Benjamins, so got use to that power level and still prefer it for many uses.

Several of my PCPs are set up to give 12-13 foot pounds and what works out to a shot per pump stroke during the sweet spot.  40 strokes in, 40 shots, 40 strokes in, 40 shots, etc.


For the same 40 shots at the same energy from my Sheridan, would need 280 pump strokes...easier strokes, but a lot more of them.

yea. i like my pumpers, but wouldn't  even dream of sitting down and shooting a tin of pellets through one in a day. but i would my mrod, but not if i had to hand pump it.  just to take hunting or a short plinking session they work pretty good. they all have a place and fill a niche. hand pumps, tanks, pcp's, multipumpers, co2, etc.

Hand pumped...will save the tank filling for when I'm old(er) and feeble.

May be more complicated than some folks care for (although it doesn't seem that way to me), but are so consistently once you get them dialed in that it is so worth the effort.



One fill...60 shots...refill, 60 pumps.

i shoot till i need to repump my disco and then while pumping i have a smoke, or if i am at the lake house i let some one else pump it while i go check my lines.. better then a tank lol i check the fishing lines and some one else does the work

I dont know about the "joy" of hand pumping but a pump will be on my Christmas list. I like the idea of never being without. But untill the air runs out of my 88cf tank I'll save that energy for something else.
