#1277 of 2023 Crosman 100 Anniversary 362 cracked stock

Opened it today and it's a pretty thing except for the crack in the top of the stock above the grip. Ordered it from Pyramyd Air and it's going to gi back. Very disappointed

No damage to any of the packaging, just a significant flaw in its manufacture.  It should never even have been put in the box.  I will post a picture shortly, as soon as I remember how to resize photos.

 I have a over 50 year old Crosman stock with a split like that, my 75 + year old one is just fine yet, they sure don't make them like they used to I should take my 100 anniversary one out of the box again and see if it is still holding up.

At first look I thought it was a stress Crack which could occur at anytime after assembly. After a closer look it's obvious the stock was stained with the crack in the wood. The dark color of the stain taking to the interior part of the wood gives it away.

If it was a 50 year old gun I'd had since new I'd consider it a "character mark," albeit an unfortunate one if I was the one who caused it. But for a new-in-the-box rifle, especially a limited edition commemorative model, it's a shame, and reflects poorly on Crosman and their corporate ownership.

It's going back. I've already emailed PA customer service, sent these pictures, and said I want a refund and was not interested in an exchange.

On a brighter note tennX's rubber gloves sleeve removal tip wirked like a charm!

Airspace:  I agree completely. If it was back in the olden days I would have gone to Crosman directly to return and exchange it. I live all of 19 miles from Crosman's East Bloomfield plant, but I don't think they let you just wander in these days.

I have another one of these ordered directly from Crosman that will be here Monday,.  I'll post pictures of it in a new thread when it is unboxed. If there's anything wrong with that one I think I might be done with modern Crosmans.  And I will absolutely try to make an appointment with someone at their headquarters to visit to make the return in person and secure my refund.  I MIGHT accept an exchange if I selected the rife myself. We'll see.

That is a shame Scott. I am surprised Crosman let that one go out. The stain around the area of the crack looks horrible... almost like they tried to repair the crack, got glue smeared around that they couldn't get cleaned out of the grain and the stain didn't take to it? Completely unacceptable for a limited anniversary edition rifle.

I hope the new one looks better than that one.

We'll see what the second one looks like very shortly - the mail lady just put it in my hands out on the front porch about 15 minutes ago.

Interesting that I had to sign for this one with the Postal Service or she couldn't leave it, and UPS can (and did a week ago!) just leave the same item in the same spot without requiring an adult signature.  But, hey, it's New York, so no doubt there at least 16 conflicting laws that may or may not apply to assault weapons delivery (or axes or machetes or butane lighters) from in-state vs out-of-state vs down-the-chimney-hand-delivered-by-Santa items (date restrictions will apply).

That's too bad it got thru final inspection.They will make good on it.
 I have a bunch of Crosman/Benjamin air guns in my collection, all pretty much defect free. Their price point makes them generally a good value too. And some of the models are legendary for many different reasons. If you walk through the entrance corridor of the Rochester plant, you will go past display case after display case after case of airguns that have been shipped through their doors over the years,  many of them designed and built within those walls. I doubt you'll find any other air gun manufacturer in the US that has been serving us with good value for 100 years.

Pyramyd Air has issued an RMA and emailed me the return shipping label, no questions asked beyond asking for photos. 👍 

This is the first airgun I've ever had to return so I was a little fearful that it might be more . . . complicated, but I'm happy to say it wasn't.
