PIXs Of RTV Seal For Leaky Airguns

basically U R forming a pillow on the crater worn out old seal  for co2 neck to rest on  

it will take at least 2 thick 1/4 inch beads around the neck of co2 bulb before it's tight enough to seal

U don't have to disassemble your gunjust clean-off all the greasy atf oil and dirt in seal housing  with paint thinner and q-tips  until squeaky dry and clean , otherwise the acetic acid used for curing the RTV won't stick  on the worn-out surfaces 

trick is to have the patience to remove the co2 bulb 2 hours after the initial application   before it cures 100%  by twisting the co2 bulb CW and then CCW slowly until it becomes free, U will feel a  moist layer around neck of co2 bulbthen apply a 2nd layer and repeat the removal procedure

this fix worked on the $63 Ebay bought Crosman  Peacemaker  22 caliber  with permanent stuck valve assembly  which won't come apart  to change o-rings  and change over to a new  29 cent  rubber faucet washer  

so, I had no choice but to make another new seal using RTVit gets 48 shots and the gas holds indefinitely
before it only got 24 shots and the gas was gone within the hour

I hope U have the same luck I had creating one

On my cellphone when I open the pic there are 3 dots to open a menu. I resize it to make the file size small enough to allow uploading. Then menu again and saveas.

Okay!

I can't believe I'm the only one curious and wanting to give this some serious consideration! If we're smitten by the impulse bug, all of us have a CO2 gun lying around that leaks (or we tossed or gifted one). With the pics I've got a little clarity, and with it some questions...

First, thanks Hall for posting, and the pics.

So, that's not a layer 1/4" deep, but a "dab or drop" about a 1/4"? Is it placed around the cartridge tip then the cartridge placed onto the piercing valve? Is it "fastened" or "locked" into place thereafter?

Nothing stuck to the neck of the cartridge, put another dab on the tip and put it back?

Where would that washer go? is this an entirely different process where you don't do any rtv? Is that faucet washer used in place of prying out the teflon sealing ring around the "piercing needle" tip? If yes, you unscrew the retaining ring first and trim the rubber washer to fit? Do I have this right? Is this better than the rtv fix?

How long has this been holding now, does the rtv eventually pull loose or get damaged? If you start leaking can you get it out or do you "lube" it with silicone? Do you still put the pellgun oil on the tip of cartridges to lube the internals or will it loosen the rtv?

I'm also wondering if a hole puch could be used on a faucet gasket to reduce its OD rather than trying to match size?

Sorry so many questions, just wondering if this is a semi-permanent fix or something that has to be redone from time to time, or something that works once then you end up tossing the gun (no offense, most of the time I'd imagine even one and done is better than the nothing you started with).

Thanks for explanation, I thinik there really was enough clarity to give this a try without all my questions ... I'm just better at repairing an existing system than I am at "redesigning" it...

the RTV fix is permanent, my fix  last thursday  is still holding gas, 2 layers will do  the trick

the RTV silicone  rubber is really tough &  resilient  when cured , it  does'nt  need any pellgun oil or ATF  or silicone grease on co2 bulb

this method saves time removing the parts and retaining nut, just have the  patience  to follow the procedure

it will be worth your time  and $1.49

once U get the hang of it, U'll never be afraid to fix   any leaky co2 gun  without any new OEM parts
no need to worry about the O-rings inside the valve body, they're all seal -up permanently  and frozen to the brass body  on the Peacemaker
on the Crosman 357s just coat the valve fittings with RTV generously
