I think I can get elm blanks for the forearms......whacha think?
This splotchiness is what I typically encounter.I sanded the heck out of this stock, but the dark spots either persist or return.I wipe with acetone, but that doesn't help.Should I try bleach? Is this considered "character" and therefore acceptable?? Desirable??

Desirable?? I like the way you adapted that stock. I stripped three Elm 160 stocks that I got from Numrich with Kwik Strip foaming spray and it lifted all the old dark muddy stain and finish very well. Then stained with alcohol-based stains by Laurel Mountain Forge and finished with True Oil. I like the grain patterns on these so much as they look so retro from the 1960s guns I had long ago. This was one I adapted to a .25 cal. carbine that I put together recently.
