Umarex Walther PPK/S

As some of you may have read I recently purchased a Walther PPK/S for my 10 year old daughter to learn to shoot with. Now I am far from a reviewer. In fact I have been know to be more a 4 letter word guy and tend not to review anything, so please take this in to account. This review is based on me putting about 15 clips through this particular gun. I will try to keep this short.

For starters this one came from PyramydAir.com. The service was spectacular as usual. It arrived in the next day after placing the order. This probably has more to do with me being located only one state away. Anyway after opening the box I was sad to see this fine replica gun in a plastic blister case. I hate these things plain and simple. I would gladly pay a few bucks more for a real box. So after prying this little sucker out of the plastic I was very pleased to feel the heft of the PPK/S. Now I have never held the real one but this one sure feels like no replica to me.

After reading the instructions and familarizing myself with its working it was time to take it out to the garage and see how she shot. First up it a smoothbore and holds 15 rounds, I used Crossman's Copperheads. I would have been happier if removable magazine had a little catch to hold back the spring for loading BB's. It sort of takes 3 hands to load. After figuring out how to block the back hole in the magazine while holding the spring catch down while loading the BB's, we finally got it loaded.  

Once the plastic magazine is inserted, you simply cycle the slide, flip the safety off and away you go.  The sights are non adjustable but worked fine for me at 25 feet. After firing the first shot three things struck me. How realistic the functioning slide is,  how quiet it was, It sounded like a large stapler going off, and how butter smooth the single action trigger was. Another nice thing was that we got over 200 shots out of it on a 12 gram CO2 cylinder, note that yesterday, and the day before temperature was about 85-90 degrees.

To wrap this up for those that skipped to the end, I loved this gun. It shoot well, was quiet and had a great trigger.

The things that I didnt like about it where, why this realistic all metal gun used a plastic magazine, was somthing really dint care for. It also would have been nice to have adjustable sights. And the ony other thing that the girls and I dint like was that thae saftey could be a little bit smoother to use.

I own one of these too. I have a nice little collection of CO2 powered bb guns for bashing Coke cans afterwork. Helps me relax. I agree with the comment about the plastic magazine. Funny but mine came in a nice box, I live in the UK so probably different markets etc. My only other gripe is the safety is moulded into the slide and they use another one. It would have been better to keep it as the original pistol.
The best feature is the blow-back action. It's quite fierce! Overall I am most happy with it and you get a lot of shots from from CO2 cartridge.

I agree Alan. The safety is a little Cheesy and the blow-back caught me off gaurd, at first. Was not expecting it to be as strong as it was. Now I am used to it but it can make it much harder if your trying to shoot groups.

After living with this gun for a few weeks I can say I really dislike the magazine. They should have used metal or at least added a little catch to hold the spring back while loading, like they did on the Makarov.

We must realize that the original Walther did not have adjustable sights. For the original, what would you want for a pistol that was only effective for, at most, 40 feet. I have an original PP (the longer barrel version) in .380cal., the hottest firepower ever produced in this pistol, and I can't think of any instance in which I would need to use it on another human (which is what they were meant for) at over the length of an average living room.
