Diana 460 accuracy question

My RWS 460 in .22 does the EXACT SAME THING. It drives me nuts!!! The gun has gotten pretty accurate now that the barrel has settled in, but that group shifting makes me want to toss it in the creek. Only rifle of mine that does it.

Based on my D 350 .22 learning curve, and sure about the screws holding tight.., I would think about two main suspects, and in this order - you, not being repeatable (holding, resting.. squeezing the trigger) and the scope, not holding zero (due the recoils of - your rifle).

You may test your scope: - center it at the mirror; if you have a small mirror (wife's or sister's makeup?), you don't even have to dismount the scope from the rifle.

Once centred, and with the scope on the rifle, shoot some rounds to the ground with any pellets; all you need = recoils.

Check it at the mirror. 

If the scope doesn't hold zero anymore with - this rifle, it may be still useful for a PCP, .22 LR, etc.

Zachary, I had similar problem with my R9. After shooting for a while, and tiring, I was subconsciously snugging the stock against my shoulder to stabilize my point of aim.  Sometimes I would still get good groups, but the poi would move by an inch or more (@26 yds). Other times, the grouping just went to heck, mostly with vertical separation.  Snugging the gun changed my rifle’s dynamics in a big way.  If I maintained a constant point of contact with my shoulder, then I could get excellent groups.  But if I moved the point of contact even slightly, the poi changed a bunch.

I just changed to a Burris Fulfield lV scope and it’s been doing a lot better. Burris said their scopes were air gun rated. Saturday I was able to shoot through a hole made by a .22 air rifle a couple times at 35 yards. It appears the scope wasn’t holding very well.
