Got the new hammer done today,  about 1/2 the weight of the old one, 18g vs 32g.

I'm interested in a picture of the hammer and material. I have a CP1 I'm playing with.

How much did you open up the ID to get down to the 18g, that's a great weight reduction.

I opened the inside to 7/16" and took down the side wall (OD) to 0.010".

I made a mistake on the last version and reduced the strike portion too much so the end button broke off.

I will turn more of these for versions 1.5 and 1.6. I will hopefully have a solid reduced weight hammer ready to go next weekend.

Of the 7 shots I did get, they all looked good on paper and there was no discernable bounce.

I did use 2 o-rings in the tube as a BStaley anti bounce mechanism.

I did see that, I will be making one like that in the future, there is definitely a need for air removal and there is a tiny hole in the spring hole and only a shaved rim on the striker end.

I intend on skeletonizing one too to see if I can speed up the hammer but make it lighter.

Howdy all.  Figured this was a perfect thread to ask this question.  All the costs being nearly equal.  Is it less hassle to just buy a Bandit, or any advantage to buying a Chaser+SafPac.  I had no knowledge of the conversion before this morning.  So forgive the ignorance.  Thanks!

Depends on if you want the carbine or pistol? I wanted a long barrel so I had to go with the Chaser. I also love tinkering so the race is better than the finish!

Go to https://airgunarcheryfun.ca/ and you can get a Bandit with Chaser grip/stock if you don't like the goofy wooden grip. That's what I did, because the Bandit factory grip looks huge for my smaller hands and I like the but stock. You could also get a Bandit and go to https://buck-rail.com/ and get an AR style grip and stock if you don't like the Chaser or Bandit factory options.

Basically the Chaser and Bandit are the same action, receiver, etc. but the Chaser is obviously made for CO2 and the Bandit for HPA.

Thanks guys!  I suppose I should have been more specific.  I have the whole Buck-Rail AR setup.  Spoke with Terry and we were hoping it would fit on my Mrod Targetmaster (CP1).  Unfortunately without some extensive modification it would not.  He made me more than whole, but now I have the set laying around.  I don’t want to waste it so was deciding between a Chaser or Bandit.  Was leaning towards Bandit till I stumbled on this thread.  I also would love the longer barrel, but have yet to find where to get one separate from the Chaser kit. 

I agree these things are so fun to tinker with I’m game to go either way.  Just wanted to ask pros and cons from the experts!

Didn't know Wes had barrels in stock, I'm going to have to ask him about that now. Depending on what caliber you are after, I do have a spare .177 Chaser Rifle barrel if you are interested(Wes sent it by mistake) but the crown is really, really bad. It's hard to get barrels for these guns, but Wes can sell you any combination of Bandit/Chaser OEM parts if he has them in stock.

Per Wes earlier, he is expecting the .22 Chaser Barrels hopefully early next month.  However don’t let me put words in his mouth.  He does seem to indeed have a great selection of hard to find parts.  Including the .177 barrels.  I am toying with the possibility of doing a .177 since it will be a 25yd MAX pester/plinker and .22 guns/parts seem to be scarce.  I would certainly take the barrel off your hands if I was more confident in my Dremel skills. 

You guys thoughts on .177 vs .22 in this platform for my objectives?

It seems like these guns perform better in .22 with better air efficiency, but I did go with .177 for my first build. I'm hanging onto my long .177 barrel in case NOE ever comes out with a .177 BBT slug mold. Each barrel requires the specific receiver for the caliber, but they aren't too expensive. Further breaking it down is the square back pistol receivers that have threaded holes for the rear sight vs the smooth top rifle receivers with an angled back cut vs the square profile. My .25 breech is a left hand bolt pistol breech and I also have one in .22, the other .22 and .177 are technically rifle receivers.

If Wes doesn't have any more Chaser rifle barrels you are welcome to my ugly .177 barrel. I also asked Wes about barrels, I'm hoping he has more full length Stormrider barrels.
