Fast Focus eye piece issue

I was shooting to find the most accurate pellet in one of my new rifles, the weather was finally a lil warm enough to get out for a little bit. Shooting at 25yds, the group with the 1st pellets were grouping ok. The next pellet the groupd opens up some, the next pellet was way bad, then the next group ok again. im like what in the world is going on w this rifle and theses pellets. i had everything set up in a good shooting bad, nice stable platform , payed attension to my hold, n breath. So i goto focus the scope a little clearer for my eye, and when i did i notice how much the recticle moved on the target , im like wth, so i wiggle the fast focus eye piece around and man that rectile moved 1.5-2 inches on the target. i had issues in the past with scopes drifting out of zero, so after this i checked all my rifles scopes and all the eye focuse pieces caused the same issue, now im thinnkin, they werent drifting the eye piece was movin around. So the next day i went to the hardware store bought some 1 1/4" orings in diff diameters and a couple1 1/4 rubber slip-joint gaskets from the plumbing isle. Went home and used my 177 break barrel that is pretty accurate and only drifted a little bit once in a while, and put the oring inbetween the adjustable eye piece and main bell and snugged it u and ckd for clarity, took a few shots, bumped it arouund some n wiggled the eye piece. it didint move. waited a day n did the same thing, no move, still held zero. so i went and fitted the rest of my scopes w the slip gaskets and/or orings and made sure things were clear went they were snugged up hand tight. shot a 22 pcp, bumped n wiggled, still held zero. so all this time i thought pellets were bad and and things were drifting was in part because of the fast focus eye piece moving the rectile optically. now i know to check and do this to all my scopes if need be. all my scopes are utg/leapers, all diff sizes and power, varible and fixed, but all w fast focus eye pieces. pcp rifles in 177 22 and 25 and break barrels in 177 n 22 mag, i started out w break barrels n utg/leaper was the only scopes to hold together for me so i stuck with them, and i still will, just now i know to check things before n during use when things move or drift for no apparent reason.

Get the scope focused to where you like it and tightly wrap electrical tape around it and it will hold it true.
Fwiw most modern scopes are "fast focus" and not all of them will suffer wandering zero from it. It really depends on the build quality. Some of them that do will settle in and stay in place without tape or o-rings in a few shots after adjustments. If yours wander after more than a couple of shots after an adjustment, you might want to consider a different brand.

Some of them that do will settle in and stay in place without tape or o-rings in a few shots after adjustments. If yours wander after more than a couple of shots after an adjustment, you might want to consider a different brand.

i thought about blk tape but over time it starts to pee off al lil thats why i went with the orings n gaskets.
for the $ i can afford, this bout the best money/durable ratio scope iv found. but if you know of better ones for a decesnt price plz let me know. id be willing to try them out.

Good quality black tape won't peel in time if you loosen up the last couple of wraps. Ive had good luck with the Hawke scopes. The POI will change if you force the fast focus ocular around but I've never had it change on its own more than a shot or two after an adjustment.
I find the Hawke scopes a good value for their price. Everybody has their favorites, these are mine for guns under 100yds.

The only purpose of the ocular is to focus the reticle and the the purpose of the AO is to focus the target. I deliberately adjust my ocular (fast focus eye piece) so the reticle is sharp PLUS the target image won't move if my eye placement isn't exactly the same every time. After the ocular adjustment I lock the "fast focus eye piece" into position with PVC electrical tape like this.........

Eyes can/do change with age so the adjustments might need to be made on occasion.

My experience with "fast zero" isn't so much the adjustment changing from shooting my break barrels but from handling the gun by the scope on occasion.
Anywhoo.......PVC electrical tape on the "fast focus" is good insurance against the adjustment changing.

Eyes can/do change with age so the adjustments might need to be made on occasion.

i never handle my guns by the scope and am very careful about bumpin them around too, i think its the shock and vibrations during the shot cycle that moves stuff around, specialy on heavy springers, they can tear up scopes quick

Too hard to "re-adjust" the ocular when needed plus I doubt that it's good to heat the "fast focus eye piece" to shrink the heat shrink tubing.

PVC tape is easily unwrapped and reapplied for "re-adjustment".
