Ammo For my 177cal Chief II Plus

From left to right NSA 15gr slug, Griffin 17gr cup base slug, Griffin hollow base 17gr slug and last but not least Eunjin 16.1 gr dome.

The 15gr are .1778 dia, the Griffin 17gr cup base were .1769, the Griffin Hollow base were .177 on the nose, and the domes were .178 head and the skirt .185. I have not shot the 17gr Griffin Hollow base but I think they MAY perform pretty good and they are a bit bigger than their cup base and the hollow base has a very thin skirt so it can expand against the rifling well ... we will see

Really looking forward to trying this Hollow Base 17gr slug. It is ~.367 long and the hollow base is ~.035 deep - the sides are very shallow so if this expands at all I should get very good accuracy with my Chief II Plus.

I'm really looking for an accurate 17-18gr slug because I want the high BC and still want to push it out at a reasonable speed (775-795 fps) yet have shot count. (~25 shots on the bell curve at a minimum)

Tested the Eunjin 16.1gr and they are accurate, should be a great hunting pellet. The Hollow Base slugs on the other hand did not work well in my gun, I'll be doing some pounder coating on them to see if that improves  accuracy !

Just shot some more Eunjin 16.1 gr pells,  and they shot better than I thought the gorse time.

I just ordered more and they should be soon on their way !! This could be my PELLET of choice, Wish I could find a heavy 177 cal slug that works :-)

Well after today I'm sold on the Eunjin 16.1 domes in my Chief II Plus -- they are accurate as heck coming out around 800 fps ... looks like I have found my pellet of choice in this gun for hunting ... now I want a slug to be as accurate as this pellet --- so far the 15gr NSA are good, but I want a 17+ gr slug and so far the Griffin slugs in this gun have not performed well.--- I'm hoping powder coating helps, we will see next week !

Have you slugged the barrel? You need to know the size of the rifling your barrel has before you can get the right size slug to shoot. Rochcreek aka Lani52 has stated this many times. The slug needs to be .0005 larger than the groove diameter

Shot a bit yesterday and the Eunjin domes are very, very accurate in this gun and have a lot of power being they weigh 16.1gr's.

I actually bought some more Eunjin 16.1's again, I should have enough for years to come ;-  )

My powder coating came in and I'll start powder coating the Griffin 17gr slugs tomorrow. I will try to slug the barrel tomorrow also.

Well, I shot three shots into some very soft and lose rags to give me an idea

Barrel "Seems" to be ~.1795, definatly not smaller. The slugs on the large size are reading (Griffin.1765) to (NSA.1777) --- Hence the reason the Nielsen slugs are shooting better in this barrel. I will try to slug this barrel using a plastic pushrod, but it must come from the muzzle end, as I really don't want to take the barrel off to do that, the gun is working to well to have me playing with it.

Powder coating the Griffin slugs tomorrow should be interesting !!!

I pooped up the pop on the NSA slugs, 12.5gr are flying out at 860fps+ and the 15gr slugs are heading out the door at 810fps.

With the extra fps, the accuracy did not seem to bad at my 18yd target. I may shoot the 15gr NSA's Sunday as I want to shoot the 16.1gr Eunjin's that are leaving the nest at 810fps tomorrow.

On all these I turned up the power wheel 1/4 turn. I hoping I get 25 shots with the new adjustment.

We will see tomorrow how the Eunjins do :-), I know they are accurate as heck in this gun !!

I pooped up the pop on the NSA slugs, 12.5gr are flying out at 860fps+ and the 15gr slugs are heading out the door at 810fps.

With the extra fps, the accuracy did not seem to bad at my 18yd target. I may shoot the 15gr NSA's Sunday as I want to shoot the 16.1gr Eunjin's that are leaving the nest at 810fps tomorrow.

On all these I turned up the power wheel 1/4 turn. I hoping I get 25 shots with the new adjustment.

Did not shoot the 12.5gr NSA slugs but shot the 15gr'rs. At 810fps they are very accurate and arrive on long range targets very quick. I might add they hit pest like a ton of bricks. I shot both the Eunjins pellets and the NSA slugs. The sight setting a way different so when shooting the slugs I must come up to 4 and left to 2 on my scope. My power setting is also turned 180 deg from where the Eunjin setting is.

Loving the NSA 177 Cal 15gr slugs so much I just bought a bunch more.

After shooting Seneca 16.1 Domes and these slugs, there is no other reason IMHO to use any other ammo "IN THIS GUN" this Chief II + is a powerful gun !

Clock wise or counterclockwise?

My "0" setting is 12 O'clock, I turn Clockwise for more hammer spring tension. 6 0'clock is for the Domes, and a complete turn to 12 0'clock is for the 15gr slugs.

After shooting I turn one complete turn counter Clockwise to get back to my starting point "0"..

I have a neon yellow dot on the adjustment nut so I can see easily where I am.
