Wow what a difference a heavy .177 pellet makes in my 1977 Benji 347.

I posted in another thread here a few minutes ago about my getting out in our back yard today to try some pumper shooting. 14 MPH gusty cross winds, cool and cloudy could dampen the spirits if I allowed them to. But the results shown below really gave me a boost! Holy cow I don't shoot this well!
 This little beauty of a rifle was made in 1977 and found its' way into my hands via a "moving-auction-household-goods-and-real-estate" sale several years ago. Only one other bidder showed interest in this "toy gun" and I was the top contender at $50 out the door.  A little cleanup of the walnut stock and 6 coats of Minwax Antique Oil Finish, followed by a rub out and buff  really highlights the feathering God put there for me to find.
 I'd heard that pumper guns sometimes like heavy pellets and I went straight to the H+N Baracuda Match 10.65 grain pellets, knowing that the 8ish grain Crosman Premiers I have were not a good pick in this rifle. I systematically increased the number of pumps and finally hit the magic number of 8 pumps. "Wow oh wow this isn't my shooting!" I thought. And with 62+ year old eyes, arthritic body and the winds to boot. 3/8 inch center to center with one flyer I called as I followed through the trigger. And I matched this several groups. Goodness.
 Spirits lifted after a good session, even though it was only at 41 measured feet. Farther and I couldn't make out the bullseye. And using the factory open sights with the mile wide rear notch leaf.
 This hobby of airgunning is truly addictive. But these days with limited travel, high costs of fixed ammo and gas, it's remarkable to be able to enjoy the shooting sports by walking out our back door. And the folks you get to meet in the hobby are a great group of folks.

Thank you.  God made the wood beautiful. I just displayed it the best I knew how. Walnut has feathering in places you'd not expect it until you use stuff and efforts to accentuate it. Don

Nice shooting Don.
Tim McMurray said it awhile back. "Slow & heavy". Since then, I've been shooting 28g Eun Jins out of both of my Racine 342s on my 27yd backyard range. They really hit with authority & help slightly to quiet the muzzle report. Squirrels hate em!

I did notice the heavier pellets were quieter , and did hit the pellet trap with a resounding "thwack!" I rather enjoy that sound. I suppose that in the right light too, I might actually see the pellet speeding home. Like  a .45 Auto round could be seen back in the day when conditions were right.

I have always found heavier pellets to be more accurate even on low power airguns.

I like 10g AA or JSB.
