I think it hit forward of the rear end and below the spine. Not sure but it sounded wheezy? Definitely not coming back.

Definitely a hit! The rats networking communication infrastructure rivals the best in the business! LOL! When it warms up their memory starts to lapse when the scent of chocolate mixed with PB hits their senses..... . Had a big possum gobbling up my stations PB, knocked it off the wall with a broom stick, clipped it's behind 3 times with the PRod then finally had to clip it's tail to get it to understand that this area is off limits and it's presence has the rats looking else where to eat/nest like my garage!

It was pointed out to me that it moved the second I pulled the trigger. I go for body shots shots, aft of shoulders, and that explains why I (think) I saw hole in the backend.

Seems like forever since I've seen a rat at the PB station. I still set up every night and the Taipan waits on the breakfast bar.

Slow here too because of a large possum that has taken 5 lead pills to its behind and still keeps coming back! Even shoved it off the wall with a broom handle! Soon Johnny, soon they'll be back.

Rodents leave a urine trail to the food source, good girls friend house etc, etc.
Reread this above statement again..............

When you get a target coming in, DO NOT shoot it, Leave it alone, to go back to it's home turf,
and remark the yellow brick road, it may take several trips, weather will reduce the trail markers also,
then others (Tour Guides) will follow the Yellow Brick Road, they in turn will also mark the road.

Pretty soon the whole mob will start using the Yellow Brick Road to the food source,
now you will have some targets to shoot, make a accurate count of the total targets being there,
and shoot the small baby ones, leave the big ones as tour guides.

BUT, DON"T SHOOT them ALL, leave several targets to keep marking the Yellow Brick Road,
for other to follow along etc.

You'll have to decide...............

Is it better to shoot them all at one time and then complain I don't have any targets too shoot,
or shoot a target every couple of times, leaving the tour guides to mark the Yellow Brick road,
so you will have a continues supply of targets,  Your choice.................

The scenario you describe happens, inadvertently, because I DO NOT get up at 1:30 am responding to the doorbell camera alerts and the rats have had numerous trips to the PB and gone back to the "good girls friend house".

The last one left a trail, pretty sure, of blood and that was a curse.

My back yard wall is a proverbial highway for rats, possums, squirrels and coons...it leads almost directly to a water canal...there will never be a shortage of rats as there are droves of fruit trees along this path. The rattus rattus that I shoot are territorial unlike their larger cousins the rattus norvegicus so a family consisting of a dominant male and female that guard their territory until they are over taken by a stronger or younger male or rogue males or are trapped, poisoned or shot. The only thing is to make sure to not take out the original scout too early, wait a few days and they lead the rest of the family to the station. During fall and early summer I watch large males chasing off intruding males but they will welcome in females. The adults also chase off their own young males when they are sub adults just like a lion pride so they can start their own families and therefore not over populate one area and deplete the food sources. After I have eradicated a family it takes a couple of weeks for their territorial marking scents to fade then other rats move on in, same cycle.

Nicely done johnnypdx.  Ahh the smell of cow manure in the foggy air... Tillamook is ripe and no doubt a good place to find a dairy needing pest control.  I see you have done a thing or two to that pp700.  Are you using the .22 or .177 barrel?
