New 1322 Project - what mod's first???

I have been holding on my first 1322 project as I have not found pump fore arms I liked, and that was a big one for me.  Well last nite I lucked into two wood backpacker style pump grips at Alchemy AirWerks!!!  The last two they had I think, so I bought both.

Now I'm ready to start my first project - but need a little help.  I know I want to add the following:

Longer Barrel
Steel Breech
Shoulder Stock
Wood pump grip

Considering the 21" Barrel from Alchemy, and ambidextrous breech as my daughter is a lefty.  Outside that what are the first things you'd do?  I don't want to pump more than 8-10 times, so mods to pump 15-20 times are not on the table.

Will the longer barrel gain me much velocity over the stock 10"?  Enough to help it hunt without other power mods?

 I think next was a 14.5 inch barrel. A bit more FPS, and still maneuverable,
then I went for a Baker aluminum breech. Added a Rocker1 LDC and it now wears a Optima 3-12x50.
Still has stock internals.    Happy with it the way it is, but always subject to change...

Good point - I wanted that 21" barrel for speed, but thought the 18" may be a little more handling friendly.

Where did you get the cheek rest?

 Have to customize it a bit to fit that Crosman stock.
 I drilled both sides and screwed it in place.

My pumpers, both .177...carbine has 18"  barrel and 14" pistol. Both capable sniper up to 30 yards 10 pumps, got FTP on both.

Not a big fan of the aluminum Baker breech, although I like the weight.

Ill-fitting, IMHO, especially where the bolt handle is supposed to cradle.

Also had plenty of dings even though I duly specified that one be handpicked for me.

I was planning to return mine after I got it but I donated it instead.

Well, I must have been spoiled by Don Cothran's excellent machining and finish.

 I bought a steel breech from Pyramyd once. Contacted them after as my breech came "painted" black, not blued, and had machining burrs all over it. (?)
 They made it right, sent a nice blued one. Made my pistol heavier...
I later got rid of the pistol anyway, but when I got a 2240 I wanted a breech to mount a scope. A buddy told me about Baker.
This one is lighter, and has two set screws for the barrel.
  When I got it , I fought with it, and called Baker.  Sent it back and got sent a replacement. Same thing.
Called again, and spoke with a tech (I believe).  Anyway there is a bit of a trick to get these to seat the bolt right. And after that, it's a nice tight seal.
(bigger o ring on the bolt?)
 I have two, one for the 1322, and one for the 2240.  Both calibers.
   On my 13xx pistol now I went with the latest...Buck Rail  mounts, which, unlike the 459 mounts,  sit right on the pump tube.
 MUCH more stable, barrel doesn't move,   JMHO

The ATI cheekpiece is a good fit for aligning to the scope with the 1399 stock.

Another alternative is some simple filing of the ATI with a rat-tail file to fit the contour of the 1399 stock, if not wanting to drill to fit the stock.    It literally takes only minutes as the material files nicely.

You need to look up some of Wyoman post on the 13XX series of guns. I wished I would have seen some of his posts before I modded my 1322.
Trigger job & steel breech. I like the feel of a 14” barrel vers a longer barrel on the carbine. Installed a flat top valve and never looked back, made it quiet with Rocker1 slip-on LDC. My little 1322 is a shooter and a fun gun all around. It has taken many rats and g-squirrels. Depending on what’s game, it has a red dot or 6x scope with a red laser for rats.

Yes, the Baker breech bolt probe does seal right, but what I do not like is the way the bolt handle sits; it does not fully sit on the base of the notch, as there is an mm or so of gap.

If you would look at it, the angle of the notch/groove is off in its angle, hence the bolt handle seems suspended.

I would have been fine with that, but mine had multiple deep dings, which cannot be rid by sanding.

I was going to send it out for nickel boron plating like the rest of my Crosman parts, but a pockmarked part does not look good plated, obviously.

The base finish needs to be flawless, IMHO.

CraigH is right about filing the ATI cheekpiece's base to fit the Crosman 1399's hump.

I have 2 and they work well.

This one is the old model (plastic nut on my first one), but ATI now has a knurled steel nut:

I have since upgraded it to Vernon Austin furniture and a RAI AR stock adapter though:





It has a 14" super accurate .177 LW barrel.

I have done single hole 5-shot groups with it at 25 yards; scoped, that is.

It favors AA/JSB 10g pellets.

No internal mods except for a Wyoman valve set screw fortification, as I do not hunt.

Since we are spending money I also like to add  flatop piston.  The one from crosmod was the only I could find that was adjustable.  Great quality product.

I don't want to be pumping a ton - 8 pumps would be nice to work with.  Does a longer barrel provide decent velocity increase - I have heard about 10 FPS per inch - is that close?

Definitely need a mil dot scope and chronograph. You'll be able to use hawke chairgun pro or strelok ballistic software. It just makes shooting so much more fun. I can hit a soda can target consistently up to 73 yards.

On the ATI cheek rest.. I guess at the time I mounted it with the screws so my eye would be right behind the scope.
 I did make a couple of square cut notches 1/8" deep, front and rear with a 1/8" file, just so it would sit square.
