My Diana 48

Thank you, Hector Medina!  My Diana 48, with her Nikon 3-9 EFR scope, is a single hole laser at 30 yards with both JSB and AA 8.4 gr pellets.  After today's Dr. appointment, I'm gonna' try to get a chrony reading on the 8.4 gr. pellets.  She was shooting H&N FTT's at ~850 fps BEFORE your tune.  I'm curious what she's doing now with the 8.4 gr pellets.

It has been so long since I used my Caldwell Chronograph, I had to relearn how to use it.  In a nutshell, we recorded 837 fps w/ 13 fpe and a SD of 5.24.  That SD would be ~1.0 if two pellets of the ten were not counted.  BTW, I misspoke earlier.  Prior to your magic, she shot H&N FTT's at 954 fps.

I am very pleased with this rifle.  Thanks again.

Its nice to see someone else appreciates the Diana side levers. I have a 1994, 48 tamed down to the UK limit. I brought it second hand back in the summer, love at first sight, it was doing 11.6 on the dealers chrono but had an awful twang. The twang disappeared with a PTFE sheet piston liner and it still did 11.6 but much smoother. I made a mistake cleaning the barrel bore as it took around 500 shots to get it back on target. I tried many makes of pellets but JSB's in 4.52mm, 8.44, 7.87 and 7.33grains all shot pretty "dang" good out to 55yds. When shooting with the scope zeroed for the 8.44 the other two weights shot 1" higher with the 7.87 and 2" higher with the 7.33's.

I enjoy my 48; however, it is heavy and the cocking maneuver is a bit awkward when compared to that of a break barrel.  Your gun has an interesting stock.  My 48 is in a 52 stock that I might refinish.

Nice Stock!  Not my "cup of tea", but nice none the less.

Thing with the particular variant / version of this gun is that the cocking effort has been reduced to 22# peak, and yet it does exceed your "FAC" level.

Have you measured yours? I would be interested in the number.

My 48 produces a modest 11.6 fpe inside the UK energy limit of 12fpe, both before and after fitting a piston liner to remove the firing twang. Cocking pressure has not been measured and quite honestly I don't see any point in knowing what the pull weight is as it is comfortable.
The thumbhole Tyrolean stock is a bit of a mystery as it appears it was available as a standard fitting in the mid 90's, I have seen one other. With a scope fitted it weighs in at around 11lbs and is a bit of a beast to lug around, however, it does hold steady for standing shots. It has a fair recoil and it's concern as to whether it will eventually wreck a scope but that is yet to be seen.
I had one of these in the late 80's, struggled to come to terms with it and moved it on. This one is very pleasant to use once you get over the recoil sensation and is my first serious springer since the early 90's when PCP's became available in the UK. They are a bit of a rarity here and the guys at my club all HW/AA springer fanatics originally laughed when they saw it, after a few of them fired it the opinions changed and the feedback I got was "Very nice".
