mods to my AEA HP Varmint .25

Had the gun almost a month now, long enough to know where it needs help and where it shines

FIrst thing I did was add 5 orings fron my HF kit to the bolt knob. Really helps hold the bolt knob securely (for me at least) during the rather stout cocking cycle.


I knew before I orderd it Id have to work the trigger. Also found a vid from the guys I got it from, (but naturally cant find it now ) that really helped the heavy trigger. It still needs more, but Im getting used to it. Also think that much more could be done when I can get to (read that: have the stones to take apart) the hammer/sear interface.

The one thing I noticed even before I decided to get it was the lack of a bottom rail for lights/laser/bipod. Once it arrived I took some meaurements and drew up and printed a pair of clamshells that encloses the neck of the bottle and part of the “reciever.” there are two captive nuts inside the clamshells that the rail bolts into. The rail was something I dug out of the “extra bits” box from a long ago project. The whole arrangement is surprisingly stiff, but we’ll see how that holds up over time. Somewhere I have some short lengths of aluminum rail in a box, Ill swap that on when I locate one of them.

One interesting thing I noticed... if I move the bipod rearward toward the gauge on the rail, it has completely different handling characteristics than with it in the pictured location. For my needs though, having it forward is the best.


One other issue Ive run into, is the bigger scope wheel I had printed for that scope will not clear the mag given the scope setup shown. Thatll be my fun this week end....
