Gas Piston Airgun Recommendation

Ive been reading about the NP Trail XL, anyone here have one? How do you like it? Any other NP airguns that would be a better choice? Id like to stay under $400. Thanks!

i got a benjamin titan from walmart for $149. just to see how the nitro piston is and im very surprized with how smooth and quiet it is lots of power and the scope that came with mine is ok also. only thing i had to get 1 of those grt III triggers as crosman has crappy triggers long rough pull is the only setback. thats the only bad thing i can say about that rifle . for the money i got more than i expected

The only thing that I have read that might help.  One of the chief moderators and tuners on the GTA has the opinion that the Remington NPSS internals are better made.  Which may still be on sale.  For $400 a Hatsan 95 with a gas piston mod sounds good to me.  Better made air rifle than crosman to what I have read.

i have a trail xl1100,they r pretty sweet once u put some work into them.easy to take apart and tune up.if interested mines for sale on the classifieds.my personal honest opinion is that theres more accurate rifles that carry less power but r much better suited for hunting,that being said on a good day after knowing the rifle and having the right pellet n hold down the trail xl is a formidable rifle in the woods and packs one *(&^  of a punch.

I also have a trail xl. Very powerful air rifle, but its heavy as heck and will most definately require a few hours of labor to get it to shoot properly. You will more than likely need to change the piston seal, definately need a new trigger, and i would probably cross hatch the compression cylinder while its aprt for the new seal. If you can pick up a used XL for 200-ish dollars, they are decent but they are very hold sensetive. Atleast mine was. If i shot it from a rest (balled up coat) i could shoot a 10 shot group inside a dime at 25 yds. And about a quater sized group at 50 yds. Very powerful, very accurate, very difficult to shoot well. I have a titan and now my xl collects dust. I love my titan but, since i bought the mrod, both guns sit. If your willing to drop 400 bucks, why not look around for a used mrod in .177 or .22 and tune it down for high shot count low power? Good luck dude

Same here. I got a re-furb on a lark, did the trigger thing and love it. Made me a believer in gas pistons.

I have the Trail NP XL .22 and like it alot, but I like my Nitro Venom .22 better,........and both are definatly topped by the Walther Talon with Nitro Piston in .25 ....I really reccomend those Hatsans

For about $300 you can have the Titan GP from Wal-Mart, the trigger thing, and a great scope and have a pretty gnarly setup.  As said, there's better combinations to be had out there but you'll be hard pressed to find a better bang-per-dollar than the GP.  I had several issues with mine when I started out with it but it has cleared up and if I bench the gun she can drive nails.

With the benjamin trail np xl 1500 break the sound barrier using regular 7-8 gr pellets?

absolutely mine xl11oo broke the sound barrier with 14 grain pellets till it broke in n bn they r the same power plant i have no doubt a 7 grain would do so even after break in.imo these rifles r built for using heavy pellets

I don't think they make .177 pellets that that gun won't break the sound barrier with.

I just bought the Titan low velocity GP 22 for $85 from AGD........Pyramyd has one for $114 and you can get 10% off with a coupon.......what a cheap way to enjoy a wonderful smooth, easy to cock NP. Just buy a GRT-111 from CDT and then put a UTG/Leapers 4 x 16 x 40 ao for $69 with a 11 mm to weaver mount ($9.99).....and you're done......(well, with airgunning, you're never done...)

By the way...my low velocity GP is still shooting  690 fps with CPHP 14.3 grain...quiet for the neighbors, tons of power for the rabbits, squirrels.....

If a bad unit.....can return to these decent vendors....

Buy a stoeger x20s and let gene ram it and put trigger in.U still under 400.00 but with a gun that's hard to beat and very accurate AND quiet!. I love all mine,Especially the one he rammed
