Newly bought a Hatsan AT44 PA .25 cal but unable to dry fire

Hello guys,
First time to post at this gate.
I thought all the PCP can be dry-fired but not the one I just bought. I suspect the gun be defective. But it's the first time to have a PA airgun with .25 cal and probably I did something wrong. I cannot test with real pellets since I don't have any. Just ordered from Amazon but it will take some time.
As I pulled the trigger, I could hear a tiny sound of click. Not sure if it's normal.
Did this happen to any of you guys? Haven't taken any pics since I doubt it will help.

 Hmm not sure if i ever dry fired mine, is this with the mag in? Are you sure the pump action cycled fully, older models will engage safety with each pump action.

Yes, I'm sure it was fully cocked. And the mag was in but there was no pellets in it. No, the safety was off and still off after cocking.

 This may sound strange, due to the fact most Hatsans are heavy on the hammer spring preload, but you may have to adjust the hammer spring out some to get the power up enough to open the valve.
 One other thought is the air gauge is faulty and there is no air in the tube
 To test that unscrew the tube and see if you can press the valve stem in with finger pressure.

Sorry about the false alarm. You were definitely right about your suspicion that the gun was not fully cocked. I guess it is new and the pump may not be smooth enough for easy cocking. Now it's fine. I dry-fired it and sounds quite powerful. This is my first .25 PCP. I started liking it.
I guess I will come back to you for more info after the pellets arrive.

It is one you need to rack back and forth firmly...at least the one I used was.  Likely short stroked it a few times getting use to it;worked fine with you "chuckachucka" it.  Not a real polular PCP, but if you are use to using pump shotguns, it feels right at home when hunting.


Mostly used for hunting rather than plinking/targets, but tested it enough to know there didn't seem to be any accuracy penalty.

Thanks for the tips. Frankly, I don't like the length of the gun: it's too long. As I move around while taking the rifle along, 3 or 4 times out of 10 I will hit something by the muzzle. It's heavy but somehow I like heavy guns. Most of my guns are heavy. I bought a Flashpup .177 a month ago but I returned it since 1) the gauge didn't tell right pressure; 2) it's coarse and unrefined; 3) it's not heavy. The edges of the metal parts are like razor-sharp that I almost got cut. And I don't like the idea of a thin steel rod linking the trigger to the hammer. I saw lots of positive reviews about that gun but I just cannot agree. When you talk about workmanship, AT44 is much better, which may not as refined as a Marauder but it's way better than the Flashpup.

You're right about PA, which is not as good as a regular bolt as most of AT44 has. Maybe I'm not used to it yet, let's wait and see. The gun is quite powerful. The accuracy is pretty good too but not as what some reviewers said 'extremely accurate'. Maybe I haven't tried the right pellets yet. The pellets I have so far is Benjamin Sheridan BD225 27,8 grain and H&N field target 20 gr. which is not as good as the Benjamin's. The JSB match daibolo exact king 25.4 grain is on the way, which is said a good pellet.

Only things I found was that it had some problems bench/bag shooting...there is a little wigle in that forend...forened sitting on the rest...that wiggle would get me.   
Having to un-bag it to cycle the pump and never really getting a good "nest"in the bag.


Bought to hunt...so usually hand-held...butfigured out a bag ahead of the trigger took care of the fore end wiggles.

Shot as well as other's (quite good)and resonded the same way to any of the tuning information from then.

Was the older non QE version....a bit shorter.   Did put a LDC on it for when I needed to be quiet,but took it off when I didn't care(like out in the woods).

Big scope....it's an old 4x40mmTasco,so it's not a powerful scope.

Nice pic Ribbonstone! It's a beautiful gun. Yes, your's is shorter than mine.
One more thing, the specs says double-feeding pellets is prevented but it happened to me at least twice. Probably because I didn't pump all the way back. But that being the case, the mag was not supposed to rotate clockwise to cycle a new pellet. It really did. Or it wouldn't shoot doubles.

Another thing. I adjusted the trigger pull-force by turning the #3 bolt (the one in the far back above the trigger) counter-CW for 1.5 turn. Guess what, the gun wouldn't cock. I had to clockwise a full turn to make it able to cock. Now the trigger becomes very sensative.

Pretty much have to make the trigger is a little stiffer than "hair trigger"...there is a good bit of shucking going on, which is defiantly vibrational to the trigger.

Nope...they'll double feed (regardless of which model) if you are just a hair short of sear engagement...pump or side lever.

  Unsure if it is a combination of a solid hold enough to break the trigger and let the recoil load up the next shot or what , works great for what it is , less hassles than a semi auto IMO.
 Still a fun + useful gun no matter what cal , from my experiences. .177 standard  10 no LDC Shroud QE    with N/C screw on option onboard.

That pump action is a sweet gun, maybe I should buy another hatsan. I already have a at44-10 side lever in .22 so a pump action in .25 would be sweet next to it.

My lever action can definitely double feed if not fully clocked on the first stroke, hatsan guns are not fx's, so they're not meant to be treated tenderly.

Had the same thing happen to me when I received my AT44 PA .177  Thought it was defective but wasn't cycling the action far enough to shoot.  Fun gun but eats up that air quick.  I installed a huma reg set to 100bar shooting hades around 875 with only 1.5 turns on the hammer.  It came from the factory shooting way way to hot.  I also used scope ring with pic rail attached to the air tube so I can shoot of a bi pod.
