Power loss Crosman CO2 1077

1077 loss of power.  Too weak to push pellet out of magazine.  May be 5+ year old CO2 cartridges have lost CO2.  Possible?  How can I test cartridge? Weigh?

You can weigh an empty one. Full ones should weigh 12g more. Is your power loss consistent with temperature? If you're out shooting in wicked hot weather, you could possibly be running into valve lock from the heat.

Thanks. You may have nailed it.  I always thought hot was good as helps co2 vaporize. I set gun out in Sun on table with air at 90 degrees.
Gun was hot when I put cartridge in .  I'll also weigh empty and full cartridges.  From what I read on web cartridges should be good for many years.

Follow up.  Checked box of 40 co2 cartridges and found one empty.  So, problem could have been near empty cartridges used yesterday. But, seems unlikely that I happen to pick empty cartridges on first two tries.  As for temperature getting the gun too hot that could have contributed. In any case I put in a cartridge weighing about half oz over empty or over 12 gram co2.  Gun shot with enough velocity to go through water filled beer cans at about 50'.  But for only about 10 shots.  I think seal may be leaking and will disassemble soon.  Hope gettig gun hot in Sun, maybe 120 degree surface temperature didn't damage seal.  I think the gun had been slipping over the last uses.  I hadn't used in at least 6 months.

Fortunately 1077 parts and manuals are very easy to come by, and many items are dual-use (ie, you can find the O-rings at the hardware store).

I grew up between Belvidere & P'burg - we used to hear the speedway at night sometimes as a kid.  Shame what happened to it.

Thanks, Belvidere is a bit north of me, I'm near Flemington.   The Hunterdon county fair ground was there and included a dirt race track.  I never went but I could on a quiet evening hear cars faintly from my home about 4 miles away.  That's all gone, now we have Walmart and Lowes and a bunch of other Stuff with the fair grounds once resided. 

Back to 1077.   I took advice from Youtube that the gun may have a leaky seal, at the point where the cartridge is punctured when installed.   I took the stock off and took a long screw driver I happen to have which has a wide enough blade to bridge the seal lockdown nut (must have a better name, it is more like a open thick washer with threads on the outside edge.  I turned that down about 3/4 turn, it was not very tight.  I then reassembled and put in a known full cartridge and "NUTS" the first few shots all went about 10' before hitting the ground.  The pellet velocity must have been something like 10 fps. So, something else is amiss. Not sure about "o" rings, or even if the seal is good or not.  All looked very clean in that area, looking through an inspection opening on the cartridge tube near the valve.   I saw a breakdown that mentions a clogged screen may be a problem and I can disassemble the regulator (device that meters out  a bite of pressure) and look for a problem. Appreciate any additional help if myi description is understandable.
