i've tried a lot of different brands and for my higher priced guns i really like the BLKs.

I thought i was having a scope problem until i switched out the rings to BKL's. They don't stress or bind the scope tube which was the problem i was having previously.

After not getting satisfactory service from a couple different adjustable mounts, a RWS Lock Down mount, Hawke one and BKL so I used the cheap UTG one piece or two piece mounts with the stop pins and separate side clamp plates. The stop pins of the UTGs did tend to deform the stop pin holes in the receivers of my HW95 and Beeman R9.

The narrow top straps of my two piece BKL mounts damaged the tubes of my scopes when using 15in/lbs of top strap screw torque but the scope slipped using only 10in/lbs of top strap screw torque........


I was able to stop the scopes from sliding in the one piece BKL mounts by lining the rings with cloth electrical tape but I couldn't stop the mounts from sliding on the receiver With the BKL one piece mounts the scope slipped in the rings and the mounts slid on the HW95 or R9 dovetails even though I was using 40in/lbs of base screw torque instead of the BKL recommended max torque of 35in/lbs. Here are a couple pics showing the bases of the BKL one and two piece mounts after repeatedly torquing the screws to 40in/lbs in an attempt to keep them from slipping. Notice the deformed screw holes from the factory #8-32 screw (replaced with longer screws)..................



I then reverted back to the cheap UTG mounts with the stop pins and separate side plates which did work OK but the stop pins tended to deform the stop pin holes in my HW95 and R9 receiver when torqued to the recommended specs. My solution was to make sacrificial inserts for the receiver stop pin holes........


My final solution that works really well for my HW95 and R9 is a combination of the UTG Universal Dovetail to Picatinny adapter and a set of Weaver Quad lock rings for my one inch tube scopes............

The UTG Universal Base is one piece construction similar to the BKL but the UTG also has stop pins. The design also allows the mounting of my short Hawke AirMax Compact scope, however due to the 30mm scope tube I couldn't use the Weaver QuadLock so I had to use a different set of Picatinny rings..........


Even though the Weaver Quad lock rings also have narrow top straps like the BKL two piece mount, they will still keep my scope from slipping using only 10in/lbs of top strap torque, yet don't damage my scope tubes when 15in/lbs of torque is used. I'm supposing that the "wrap around top strap design" might have something to do with this.........


One of the best things for me is the fact that the UTG adapter is cheap ($12.97 @Pyramyd Air) and if the scope has a 1" tube a set of Weaver quad Lock mounts can be had for under $10. LOL......adapter and mount costs less than 1/2 the cost for a one piece BKL mount alone!

On some rifles I use a system similar to NCed's, thanks NCed!
One other real advantage is because of the weaver /picatinny rails, it is easy to change scope around and be close to your zero point.

 They don't crimp or crush or creep, the three C's of poorly manufactured scope rings.

The OP mentions the "preferred mounts", however I'd like to mention a one piece mount from Hawke with mis-drilled/tapped top strap holes. Has anyone ever received a mount like this?


I called hawke customer service about this issue and was told that the top straps needed to be placed on the same saddle they were originally mounted. 
Problem was that the screw closest to the scope tube would bind when tightening with the torque driver even when it was mounted to the same saddle it came from.
LOL.....I guess the operator either had a "bad day" or had a hangover when drilling and tapping the holes!
