My review of Hatsan’s  Vortex Strike Big Bore .30 cal pellets

Let me start off by saying I really loved the old Vortex .30 cal pellets from Hatsan. They were of good quality and just as accurate out of both my Bully and my Wildcat. They could be had for less than the JSB’s and were just as good in quality. If you could find them on sale they were $11.00 for 150.

Fast forward to the Vortex Strike. Initial observation upon opening the tin were not good. First thing I saw was a lot of flashing inside the skirts of the pellets. Took a few out of the tin got one of my gun picks and proceeded to go around the inside of the skirt with the flat side of the pick. I did a total of five and placed what came out on the foam in the picture shown.

Out of all the pellets (100) in the tin one had no issues (flashing) and one had a bent skirt. I bought 4 tins assuming they would be of equal or better quality than the previous ones. After being totally disappointed with what I had received I decided to open up one more to see if it was any better.
And if you’re thinking that they weren’t you would be absolutely right. Whole tin has flashing in the skirts.

New design, new weight (48.60gr), skirts are a lot thinner and zero quality control. The tin says they were made in Argentina so maybe that would explain the quality control. Going to assume the labor was cheaper and it shows in the quality. And apparently no one at Hatsan open up any of the tins to see what they looked like before they decided sell them.

I did clean a few to test out. They are pretty accurate out to 25 yards (that’s my max at home). Not the one hole or cloverleaf holes I’m use to but probably decent enough for plinking. Would not use for hunting.

I will be contacting Hatsan tomorrow about these. I would not put them in my guns without cleaning the flashing as I wouldn’t want it in my barrel.

i exclusively shoot the vortex pellets in my .30 wildcat mkII
now, i will just bite the bullet and buy JSB.
both of them have the same POI as my NSA slugs i shoot from
the slug liner.

So I sent a few emails to HatsanUSA and finally got an answer. I just received 2 more tins of unusable pellets as they are in the same condition as the ones I ordered. I now have a total of 6 tins of Vortex Strike .30 that are not usable. If I were into casting I could melt them all down and make my own. I don’t think I will ever buy pellets from Hatsan again. Will buy from a retailer with a good return policy.

and they might just refund your $$

they know me well @ hatsanusa, they have never left me hanging with the couple problems
i have had with the many products i have bought from them. they always made it right.
