Group results with a quality LDC......and without

Impressive. I too thought of the benefit of the added mass. Comments by the others got me thinking about a "solvent trap" LDC I bought as a project. That thing is huge and heavy--just over 16 ounces. I had to laugh when I unboxed it, but now, you've got me thinking I need to do some target shooting...

I'm going to experiment with my Bullboss .25
It's only accurate with Jsb .25 grains......nothing else.
Jsb its 1/2"-5/8" at 35 yards
Any other ammo its 2" groups.
Tried baffle less
Diffrent should nut tensions
Clean barrel
Dirty barrel
All with no diffrent results.

I have my Bullboss QE with one shots 3d baffles down to 78db on my meter.
Stock if I remember correctly was in the low to mid 80's
It works exceptionally well for the low price one shot charges.
However if another LDC can offer tighter groups I'm all for it.
Bullboss is maxed out at 43ft lbs which is sufficient.
It's my go to woods gun for rabbits,hogs and yote within 50 yards.
Mostly rabbits.

 

Might want to take a look at the leade... Have read that like Crosman can be the lack of one... Made a huge difference on my .25 Mrod...

I'll do more testing as time permits.
As of now with the garbage CPHP ammo the LDC unit improved the groups.

With my JSB pellets the diffrence was not so significant.
The point of the post was just to show my results.
Mt actual goal that day was to try to tune the gun to a specific ammo no matter what feet per second was required to attain accuracy.
If such a thing existed with said pellets.
I found that at the current tune and ammo the LDC made the diffrence.
I'll get a picture of the crown.
I machined an 11 degree target crown awhile back and the gun has been great ever since.

For plinking I wanted to make the gun like a cheap readily avalible ammo.
That was it.
My JSB 18 gr I have gotten as little as 5/16" groups with it at 40 yards.

But too pricey for me to plink with.

Three points:

1. The LDC acted as air stripper;

2. The LDC acted as a harmonic damper that just happened to be "set right".  There is no guarantee that this will always be the case;

3. You did not approximate a "double blind study" where you switch between LDC on and off, with the same lot of pellets, on multiple alternating mags.  Unless you have done the "on and off" multiple times, there remains a possibility that you witnessed something else...
