I'm glad that I do the simple things to computers like taking them apart, putting them back together, installing software, uninstalling software etc.  I do have Linux Mint 17.3 & 18.2 on this HD along with a copy of Windows XP for running old stuff that won't run in Linux but that's about it.  Writing a lot of code I've never done before nor do I really know how to do it but I learn as I go installing programs in the terminal on linux etc., a little like the old dos stuff.

Bill I put this one together about 5 or 6 years ago and it's already considered outdated.  I've only had desktops though, I hated working on people's laptops, it was bad enough getting them working right then the customers would screw them all up again.

When I was computer / network support I always ask the users 2 things. Is it turned on? Have you rebooted it? This fixed all but about 5% of the issues they experienced.

Are you referring to https://archive.org ?
If so, then they only have archived this forum up to December 30, 2018
I tried to post a link, but the url from my address bar doesn't work as a full link when posted.It simply cuts off everything after and including the *.

See?  That is a cut and paste from my browser's address bar.
Even then, they have only archived most sites sporadically.  One or two times a month at best in most cases.

That's similar to what I was always wanting to do to the computer when I used Windows: throw it out the window (breaking both the computer and the window)!  Six or eight years ago I told my boss I would not use Windows again.  I half expected to lose my job.  I meant it.  I did not lose it, but instead the other engineer in our tiny company took up Linux because of me and came to really like it.

LOL.... I found that having the customer turn the computer "off" fixed most issues.... basically the customer was the issue.
My best advice was... Nothing on the internet is free.. you either pay them or pay me.

If there was a car that mysteriously would quite running and you had to close all the windows, get out, lock the doors... then unlock the door, get back in, and open all the windows before you were able to move again.... would you buy it?

Ironically, this exact thing happened to one of the Koreans at work. He was having this issue. His car wouldn't start unless he got out, locked the door, unlocked the door and got back in the car. When he slammed the door it jarred the loose starter wire enough to make connection.
I found it almost to funny to watch him get in and out of his car that I was really sorry that I helped him diagnose the problem and fix it.

A problem very similar to this is how I obtained... a year old ...$2,800 lawn tractor ...for $200.

Countless times (but mostly on other forums), I have edited a post years later to update a link that had gone dead, or add new relevant links, whether to other topics, a new relevant product that came online, etc..

I bet the mods/ admins will work with you on that if you notified them
