Maybe I'm weird but shooting a raccoon at 50 yards with a break barrel is something I wouldn't even try.
Kirby, I would probably stay within 40 with the Urban only because I haven't tested it much farther than that for accuracy. The ATI Freedom is a 3600 psi gun. Those first five shots, at least, would be BEAST with those heavy pellets.Someone mentioned the Maximus... I just wondered if that would be a 50 yd coon killer.
Ported and screwed for 2400 psi and more fpe... Maybe... I have to put mine back together and see if I can get it accurate with sized BBT 30g or JSB 25.4 or maybe JSB 18g...or the new 19g Crosman .22 pellets...Stock with 14.3s... NO... 30 yards if it was all I had side brain shot...and still feel a touch uncomfortable... but after I worked on the leade in mine the accuracy is there... I have a preference for overkill when it comes to larger game... I like my .25 Mrod safety Blanket.. if I had a good .30-.357 would use it..
Kerby:This is a shot group I did today at a target box set out into the woods at approximately 62 yards. I paced it of at 26 paces. On flat ground my paces are normally 36 inches heal to toe.... but this was down steps and over rough ground into the woods so I am calling it 30 inches heal to toe but it actually could have been a little further. I was shooting standing up and simi off-hand. (My off hand was braced on a door frame.) The rifle was a 25 Cal. Hatsan 125 Thumb Hole Stock with a Spring Piston. The pellets I was shooting were Benjamin 27.8Gr Domes. This shot group was not to bad for the type of gun I was using but it is not good enough for hunting purposes. The gun is new to me and my shooting will improve some once I have become more familiar with this rifle. At 30 to 40 yards I would have had a much closer group. This is pretty typical of a standard, run of the mill, break barrel rifle. A lot of guys that shoot PCP's can do way better than this at the same range and under the same conditions. For hunting.... you should be able to keep your shots in a one inch circle. This is only to show you what to expect with a break barrel. Break barrels are what I hunt with most of the time and I myself do not own a PCP.Best Wishes - Tom

Thanks to everyone for the replies!I talked to a friend yesterday. He suggested a Diana Stormrider or Hatsan Flash QE in .22 with a chinese pump. Flash is too much money and no .22 refurbs available right now! What are your thoughts on the Stromrider? I will do some forum reading.Tommy: It looks like the Gas Piston title goes to you. Your Hatson .25 is a real winner. I like the idea of Break barrel the question is how LOUD is the Hatsan. I know pellets are cheap but I still want to stick to .22 caliber. I have many many different .22 tinsJerry (Tater): I would love to shoot your Disco/Maximus. Compact, light weight, and Hand pump friendly, is a great combination. Maybe we can meet up in Bristol at the Range soon. I hope you're air rifles are .22 because I have lots of .22 pellets to bring along about 25 different kinds. We both can try some new pellets in our rifles. Send me a message. Some time after Next Wednesday. and when the whether is above 55 degrees for a high. Kirby: Those links to the Hatsan closeouts were a great deal. I didn't get a chance to look up the "Quiet factor" and now they are sold out but what an awesome deal!! Thanks so much for the info. I snoozed so .....Bill: It looks like the the ATI Nova Freedoms are a no brainer! Buy two rifles to make a good rifle with the parts. Swap the scopes. Looks like they are quite also. Do you know of alternative sources (besides ebay) for parts for the freedom? Do the nova Freedom and Liberty use the same o rings?
