Quest Detent

I took apart my Quest 1000 and discovered that the detent on the compression tube is canted at an angle. It is one of those refurbished ones that were for sale at $49.99 and I just got it the other day. But when I went to shoot it the barrel would not lock up tight. I have a Storm XT which is the exact same rifle and there was a big difference on the lock up between the two. I would say the detent is canted at least 10 degrees. How would I go about straightening this out so the barrel assembly properly locks up after I cock it? It appears to be press fitted in the compression tube. Also on the parts diagram the detent is only sold with the compression tube, making me think it won't come out too easy. I was wondering if I should grind the same angle on the alive jam, as they call it, that mates with the detent?
Actually I can't really complain, I bought the rifle to learn how to work on springers. Getting one that already has a problem makes it interesting. Oh, and the piston seal was torn on one side too. I wonder if new guns come like that or if it is just the refurbished ones? I followed the instructions I found on the same site I bought my trigger for my Storm XT on how to tune this rifle, I think they call it a B-19. While I wait on parts and lube I thought I would seek some advice on how to correct the detent problem.

Hi morgan,
Yep, it's a B-19 powerplant, same as your Storm. And yeah, they pretty much ALL come from the factory with some seal damage.
Your detent issue is a new one to me, though.
Good deal on a Quest, though, even if you do need to shine her up a bit.

I put the compression tube in a vice, took a punch and hit the detent on the high side. It shifted to the point it was straight. I hope it doesn't move now.

Its a cheap part ...call Crosman I had titan with a loose sloppy lock up replaced the detent and its spring with service parts and it was a much beefier spring than the factory build. To remove you pull the barrel pivot screw look at the parts list on Crosman push in on dent and push out pivot sleeve
