Crosman Premier hollow points "reshaping" or swaging ?

So, crosman premier hollow points are dirt cheap.  I've seen tins of 500 at walmart for less that 6 bucks.

I was wondering if I could possibly build some sort of mold or what i think is called a "swage" that I could use to press and 'shape' the pellets to get rid of any misshapen skirts, etc. ?  These pellets seem to fit VERY tight in some of my guns.  I thought that I could possibly make some sort of device to push the pellets through to slightly reshape or reduce ever so slightly the size of the skirts.

does this sound possible ?

I am sure you could make up something to push them through to squeeze the skirts down.  Nothing wrong with experimenting for different results.  However, those pellets do contain a higher percentage of alloys which makes them a bit harder than say the softer lead JSBs or the AAs are.  With that, the thicker/harder skirts are less likely to conform to the bore when fired compared to the softer/thinner lead pellet skirts, especially at lower velocities.  I don't believe I would squeeze them down myself for that reason.  Your barrel either likes a certain pellet or it doesn't.  An alterative would be to try and lube the pellets first.

Sizing die .... Years ago BEEMAN made them in various calibers.  Recent years most if having oversizing issues with pellets will make or get made such a swag devise ... Or just use another pellet.

I would recommend Shooter's Choice FP-10.  That's what I use and like.

I haven't found that the CPHS had head sized consistent enough for sizing using a home made 4.50mm pellet head sizer, however I have successfully "head sized" my last case of 7.9 grain die lot marked and dated Crosman Premiers from the 1250 count cardboard box. The boxed CPLs have a head size of about 4.53mm-4.55mm and while the worked perfectly in my .177 Beeman R9 which had a rather loose leade, unsized those CPLs were "sore finger tight" when pressing them into the tighter leade .177 HW95.

To size my pellet heads and "round/flare" the skirt a bit I made up a pellet sizer and lapped the sizing ring till the pellet heads were 4.48mm and 4.52mm after sizing. The 4.48mm pellet heads were very accurate from the tight leade HW95, however I found that pellets sized to have 4.52mm heads were accurate in the "looser lead" R9. Later I made another sizing die that put out 4.50mm pellet heads and they were accurate from the looser leade R9 and loaded into the tighter lead HW95 without too much effort. My remaining stash of CPLs now have 4.50mm heads..........


As a side note, while I didn't have much success sizing the CPHPs from the 500 count tin due to a large percentage of undersized heads, I did find that the Benjamin hollow points from the 750 count tin were very consistent and almost all of the BHP pellet heads were "sized a bit" with my 4.48mm sizer and even the weights straight from the tins were rather consistent.........


I did find that the hard lead Crosman pellets tended to foul the bore quickly so decades ago I started lubing my CPLs with aerosol Slick50 OneLube which minimized the fouling problem and made bore cleaning easier.
