A different method of Gauntlet barrel support

I am a major victim of POI shift in the Gauntlet. On mine, it seemed a slight touch or bump of the barrel walked the POI an inch or more at 40 yards. I couldn't even lean it against a wall or put it in a rack overnight without the POI taking a walk.
I made sure EVERYTHING was tight, bought a barrel band, even tried completely free floating the barrel, but the POI was still unstable.
So I decided to try another method before seeing if I could knock down a tree with the gun.
Umarex puts a spring between the barrel and their so called moderator. That spring may be an attempt to keep a tension on the barrel, maybe to tone down harmonics or maybe to help lock the barrel / shroud combination in place.
I had a spring that was shorter and the exact same diameter as the factory spring and a little stiffer. I put it in series with the factory spring and screwed the end cap back on. There was a lot more pressure on the barrel and shroud by doing this.
So far, it seems to have been the solution I was going for. I can now pick up the gun and expect it to be on target from the get go. I even can now pick the gun up by the barrel (As a test only) and not move the POI. Many one hole groups so far with this set up.
I can't give any specs. on the added spring, it was in a box of springs I have accumulated over the years, but now it has a home and seems to be doing its job. It is about an inch long.
Anyone with POI shift conditions may want to give something like this a try.

I may have to try this..I also have major day to day inconsistencies on accuracy. Yesterday was a tackdriver at 43 yards..today many fliers. I did insert a washer behind barrel cap with uncertain results. Also placed 2 push on grommets on barrel. Have ordered Sherlocks barrel band and Hajis baffles. Hopefully all this together will help. An inconsistent gun is a worthless gun.

I'll have to try that also. My range is 30 yards. My gauntlet changes points on impact as I am shooting. Four or five very good shots, then the group moves. I removed the shroud and it shotgunned. Replacing the shroud and the grouping returned. I'll try the extra spring trick. I like the power with the JSA tune kit, but my Urban puts it to shame accuracy wise.

Once again im waking up an old thread but I discovered something yesterday with my Gauntlet .22. After installing Haji's barrel band, switching to Air Arms 16 gr pellets and increasing reg up to 1375, and installing Discovery scope, my gun is more accurate than ever...but... I've noticed that it's more accurate if I only fill to around 2700 psi. I have the larger tank and it's seems that when I fill to 3000 psi my first shots are less accurate, but when I get down to around 2700 its very accurate. I splattered 10 paintballs in a row at 43 yrds which is great for me. I also chronyed with 14.3 CPHP and got 2.5 essential spread over 50 shots which is also my best chrony ever. So im pretty happy with it..i just decided to only fill to 2700 but that makes it sound like a nonregulated gun..??. Ive ordered the JSAR supertune kit for it..thinking that it might further increase accuracy but now I'm kinda afraid to mess with a great shooting gun.

Same thing happen to my 22 cal Gauntlet, started out nickle sized groups @ 40 yds, then it all turn to )#*&^$,
I did some careful measuring and found the breech hole was way over sized,
and had grooves tuned into the breech that are approx .485" dia right under the bbl grub screws.
WHY, I don't know or figured out why etc.
What I did is this,
I got some SS shim material, .004/.005" thick, cut out a square that was 1.250" by 1.350",
by .004" thick, using the long side (1.350"), I lubed the "O" rings, and started sliding this shim,
warped around the bbl, until I finally got it inserted into the bbl channel of the breech,
(I removed the 3rd "O" ring) using just the 2 "O" rings on each side of the Bbl TP hole.
This shim had just enough clearance/space/slot, so the bbl grub screws could tighten down the bbl,
and not contact the shim. I got GOOD grub screws, US made, so these grub screws are tight........
I made a shroud retaining band, .0005" clearance to fit the bbl shank, with 3 grub screws,
this shroud band was turned to a .0005" tight push fit in the recessed diameter/ring of the breech face,
bbl inserted and bbl grub screws tighten down, TP holes lined up and mag fits OK,
shroud band was tapped into place tight/square, and then the 3 grub screws were tighten down on the bbl.
I can feel that the bbl is noticeably tighter or more solid in the breech, than OEM setup,
I also added one of these mag clamps, and installed it just behind the screws of the drop down block in the plenum,
I replaced the 2 screws (socket head) with round head screws, to clear the stock rails.

I have been testing this setup and have shot several groups dime/nickle size @ 40 yds, 14.3 OEM CMHP pellets,
slightly tighter than OEM stock groups, fired 6 shots and KIA 4 Hosp @ 40 yds,
leaned the bbl in the corner, still holds POA/POI, even did the Safari, over the shoulder, still held POA/POI............
Bounced it on the ground via the butt, and ran out of daylite to see the target/holes, more testing going on tomorrow, to see if it still hold POA/POI etc. I have been shooting this Gauntlet for the last several weeks, with the above mods, and Knifes MAD device, still holding POI/POA of dime sized groups @ 40-50 Yds.
