Scout Scope - Pistol Scope or Dedicated IER Scout Scope

I have found the scout scope to really be optimal for my Benjamin Sheridan C9A pumper.  In reading about scout scopes one interesting thing was pointed out about the advantage of using a pistol scope.  Pistol scope are calibrated for parallax for 50 yards.  A decated Scout Scope is calibrated for 100 yards or greater.  Given the range of an airgun the Pistol Scope may be more appropriate?  I know my Leupold M8 2X seems ideal.

In addition to the different focus distance there is also an eye relief distance difference between a pistol scope and a rifle scope.  A rifle scope is for three to four inches of eye relief.  For a pistol scope it's much greater.

True but for the Leupold M8 at least I known that difference is pretty small and the usable range pretty great and forgiving.  Here is the distance I have it at, mainly determined by the needs of my pumping hand and breach.  It measures about 14 inches of eye relief. In going back and forth with my eye it seems about ideal.   Leupolds current offering had the Scout Scope at 9 inches and their pistol 18.

On my old Beeman RS2 dual cal. (my first pellet rifle) to keep from having to re-zero after changing barrels I use two BSA 2-7x32 pistol scopes mounted on 5 slot barrel accessory mounts just forward of the barrel block. Had to cut a few inches off the front of the stock to be able to cock. First I tried a couple of AIM 2-7x32 scout scopes but the eye relief was to short.

But I found a use for the AIM scopes. My two Peak TS45's and B3-1 AK as well as a Pleasure KS-1(B2) don't have 11mm scope groves but have shorter receivers than the RS2. So with the same type barrel accessory mount and an off-set mount the AIM scout scopes work on those guns. The off-set mounts have see-thru holes and I can use the iron sights also. Also have AIM scout scopes on one of my QB57's and a B6Z bull-pup sidelever springer.

Fun stuff. I wanted a new gun but didn't have the money so decided to experiment with guns I didn't shoot much. Probably spent enough to buy a couple of guns.

Steve, stay with the pistol scope for the reasons you listed about parallax. Especially since you already have a very good pistol scope.
Why spend the money on a new scope when you already have a Leupold?
Looking at your posted picture, you could probably move your scope forward 1-2 inches, still have plenty of eye relief & give yourself a little more hand room for pumping. Just a suggestion.

Good thought.  I have no thought of not staying with the Leupold but I posted this cause I don’t think I have heard the parallax issue discussed when the use of pistol scopes comes up?
