FX Wildcat II in .22

Just got this, my first PCP in a few years. Utah Airguns did their hydrodip Kuiu finish on the synthetic stock which was frivolous of me but I like the looks. So far everything has gone smooth. Had a worrisome moment after initial fill dropped 10 bar in an hour but then it stayed put overnight and it must have been the normal temperature related settling. The Athlon Argos BTR 6-24x50 scope wasn't expensive for its feature set but admittedly it isn't as clear as my Vortex Razor on the 6.5 Creedmoor PRS rig... but certainly workable and a lot lighter. Utah Airguns installed the pic rail for the bipod which saved me some anxiety, works very nicely.

I also got the last of their Huggett shrouds. I don't have a reference of the gun configured differently but it seems pretty quiet, the targets makes louder noises than the gun. Workmanship on it is excellent and it looks nice.

Most impressed by the FX No Limits mounts. Utah zeroed it for me but going from 5000' to 400' negated that. Also I wanted to get the scope turrents in the center and set to zero for my most most used target distance of 25 yards. The FX No Limit mounts allowed me to get the scope zeroed vertically within a 1/10 Mil and from there I can dial. So far I don't see any movement or funkiness from them. I doubt this would be the case for a heavier recoiling gun but for a moderate PCP I'm convinced. Of course there is no mechanical adjustment and you make moves by trial and error but it only took 7-8 cycles to nail it.

Only thing I can find to complain about is that the IR reticle on the Athlon isn't daylight bright. Tried three batteries. Will do some research but I suspect scopes at this price point aren't going to be as bright as a $2K scope. Order a sunshade for it since I see some flare, also ordered Vortex Defender caps (they fold flat and stay on really well).

And I can get 4x8 =32 pellets going from 220 to 150 Bar. No chronograph to know how low pressure I can shoot it before it drops off but 150 is my hunch.

I've always had .177 in springers and the previous PCP so the .22 feels like a 50BMG in comparison lol. I have some heavy AR500 shotgun 3-gun targets that I use for additional airgun duty and while the .177 would simply ping, the .22 knocks them off their pedestal just like a 12-gauge! 

Being new to me I don't miss the adjustments yet but I can see why an Impact would be attractive simply because of the larger air bottle. I can see bringing the air tank out with me which I never had to do with the 500cc tank on the .177 RAW (200 shots per fill).

Does anyone know where to buy those tank "feet" to keep it from rolling around?

It was nice to deal with Utah Airguns, good people who will work with you. I simply was never going to buy from the "other place" and told Frederik that in an email and presto, a couple of years later he took my advice ;-p (Probably 100 others wrote the same thing.)

Nice choice on that dip and that hugget shroud is very cool looking. IMHO the wc is the best looking bullpup made. The side lever placement looks a lot better to me. Congratulations on a great looking gun!

Ordered a chronograph (again) for diagnostics as much as anything, after I get through a reasonable break in period I think I'll be hitting the hammer spring adjustment to lighten the power a bit to maximize air efficiency (using about 2.5 BAR per pellet seems a bit heavy).

I really like .22 after years with .177. I can "see" the pellets much easier. Hmm so maybe now I see where people go to .25 and .30 from here... albeit with a larger air supply. I'd be frustrated with a low shot count if I shot this in a larger caliber but if I had an Impact or Crown a .30 would be OK.

Interesting how the psychology of shooting differs between springers and PCP. With the PCP the actual shooting is less critical and hitting the target is almost a given if you follow simple techniques. But you can try harder shots and longer distances so... versus my HW30s that love the shorter ranges while still being challenging.

I love my WC II in .22 I have taking squirrels out to 122 yards with JSBs 18s.

Got it all pimped, shoot it everyday rain or shine, did the first good clean and lube with no bad after taste. Great gun!

I honestly don't know what I'd want next, this seems as accurate as I'd ever need to be and I'm not that anal to go tearing into it and "fixing" things that aren't broken. I guess I'd like a larger air supply but I've already had a bottle gun and realize that you pay for the weight and bulk.

Maybe I'm done lol.

Sweet gun Frank that stock and the Hugget look awesome!  I see you have the Atlas PSR and am wondering if you have noticed that the "fore and aft" limiting bosses try to keep the bipod upright when you are trying to cant the gun?  I think with a big heavy gun it wouldn't but with mine when I try to cant it wants to right itself automatically.  Kind of annoying and I almost wish I would have saved the $40 and gone with the regular Atlas.  Still an awesome bipod that will last a lifetime.

Maybe you're done?  Let me know how that works out for you!

Nice Wildcat Mk2!!  Resently got one in .25 cal walnut!  Your gun’s a beaut!  Nice choice with the Huggett shroud and custom dip.  I considered that but went with the FX addition Donnyfl Tanto.  I need to be able to remove it for the gun to fit in the suppied FX hard case.  The standard .25 Wildcat Mk2 is longer.  Again great piece!

Umm, I like my Atlas canting really tight because that's how I learned at the PRS class I took. The difference between an 8# airgun and a 11# rifle isn't that much, you still need it snugged up and in theory you're only doing a degree or two of adjustment went you do cant (or it's better to move the legs at different heights/angles). I guess it depends on your situation, more important not to impart a twist at the trigger. On the bench/table I try to move the gun with my weak hand on the butt stock so I'm not influencing my trigger. All that said the main reason I bought an Atlas at full price is because I want to support a good honest American business as opposed to a Chinese copycat.

Gotcha, now I get it. I guess mine doesn't spring back or want to return to whatever it thinks is neutral. Maybe because mine is so tight? Maybe try it tighter?

In my case Utah Airguns mounted a short Picatinny rail for the cost of the rail (since I spent a lot of money) and gladly took them up on it because it is a small, thin synthetic forearm ~ you don't want to mess up.

Picatinny rails are common on tactical firearms (AR15s, etc.) and I'll use the same bipod on several guns. I got the Atlas with the flip lever quick release.

If I were buying a new bipod just for one gun I might opt for the kind that mounts to a sling mount since that would be easier to install but do your homework first. The Harris bipod functions differently than the Atlas.

There is also a new Magpul bipod that looks pretty good.
