Couple of questions about tanning

Well, Im getting pretty comfy with the trail NP LOL.....

Nutter season is right around the corner and I have plenty. I also have a fat a%$ Ghog thats been hanging around. I know what I plan on doing with the meat. Im just not sure of the hides.

 I would love to tan a few, and make a cap or some boots for my 16 month old daughter ( so when shes older, she can say "My dad was a nut look at what he made me LOL")......


I guess Im looking for any info on treating the hides, both with and without fur. Any home made recipes that work out for you all as far as tanning would be Great........Or even a link to a good site for some reading..........Thanks a bunch, its appreciated

I usually use this stuff.. It's quite simple, and almost fool proof, no need to make lots of measurements and stuff like that... I've been using it for a good couple of years.... The instructions come with it

What you start out with


Salt it up heavily... 3 days or so, every day putting new salt down (I normally burn though a full lb of salt everyday just for redfox)




After the hide tanning stuff is on about 2 minutes.. It gets a lot darker as it dries



You also have things like brain tanning... Just make sure you have a strong stomach and make sure you haven't eaten anything for the past couple hours..lol

There also is a good website floating around on the web about how to tan with basic ingredients like alum and stuff like that... I thought i saved the info on my harddrive, but i can't find any of it
