Never though about using a canning jar. Now that's innovation! No concern about fine particles from the crystals getting into the intake of the compressor?I was thinking about using 13X molecular sieve but noticed it's quite dusty when pouring it.
I have some cloth material on the end of the tube that goes to the compressor so it filters any dust and keeps the desiccant beads out of the air tube. Not real sophisticated, but it seems to work.
I built one with a canning jar. Not sure how effective it is, but the beads change from blue to pink as it's running, so I'm sure its removing some moisture from the air being drawn into the compressor.
Go to "Chinese High Side Filter Hack" thread. The members there say that moisture filter on the intake side is minimally effective. Better to setup a dryer filter on the high pressure side. You can confirm the effectiveness of this hack. If there is still moisture when you open the bleed valves after filling your tank, then it is not doing what it is suppose to do.
