RE: Hatsan AT44

Attention all.  Travis from JSAR has agreed to start making Hatsan AT44/Bullboss valves!!!  He needs a total of 25 orders to break even.  And once we have 25 committed, he’ll start.  Right now I have 3 takers so we need 22 more!!  The AT44 is one of the most proven PCPs available and I know there’s many of us that have tinkered with them.  Can I get an Amen??!?!!

I am trying to understand as I have come close to getting A Hatsan 44. What would be the or a reason to replace the I oem valve?

Hmmmmmm....  When you say making valves, what kind of valves?  Are we talking about a balanced valve, or just an interpretation of the factory valve?  You may want to change that title to include the Bullboss too, since it is the same valve.  You may get more takers.  Please tell me more information on this!

More power, and easier cocking I would assume.  The factory valve can be modded to make more power, but usually at the cost of more hammer spring.  A PEEK poppet helps with the hammer spring part though.

I think I'd be in for this maybe.  I'd like to see a concept drawing on it, and I'm wondering what the results would be on my high power and regulated tunes.  Seeing it is a balanced valve that wouldn't require much hammer strike is a big plus, and should result in stellar efficiency I'd think. 

Travis(or anyone who knows), I have a few questions regarding this.  I'm sorry if they are dumb questions, but a balanced valve isn't something us Hatsan owners have ever had the option for   I've glazed over most of the posts about balanced valves, since it wasn't knowledge I could apply to my guns...
- Is it hard to get a good shot curve with these valves(balanced)?
- Would it keep the same architecture of the factory valve?
- What is the power potential of these valves?
- How well do these valves respond to different spring settings?  In my case I run two separate cylinders for different
   purposes, so I make HS adjustments when changing cylinders.  I run a 30-35fpe tune on a  regulated cylinder and a
   50-60 fpe tune on an unregulated cylinder.  Could I still do this with the the valve?

In my case, the biggest thing the valve could do for me would be efficiency, and to a small extent easier cocking.  My gun can already make more power than almost any ammo that will fit my magazine(.22).  I'm already getting 1.4-1.5 efficiency now depending on tune, but I've done everything I can do to my gun for the most part.  That isn't to say I wouldn't jump at the chance to improve what I have done though!

This topic is in three different areas. Once I get a chance, I’ll list the names of the peeps that are interested so why could have a count and so Travis sees the need and want for these Hatsan valves.  Want I’m looking for is more power, so I could have two or possibly three different tubes, most likely two regulated and one non regulated for balls out power.

With the ease of opening up the ports and the sidelever on the AT44 for cocking a heavy spring , “balls out” power can be done without a balanced valve . 70 FPE which is a 34 gr pellet at just over 950 FPS I quite easy. Now if your looking to get over 80 FPE using slugs that will fit the relatively short magazine have at it . Also the anti hammer bounce device is a weak link when pushing the power too much on the Hatsans .

I agree with you completely Denis!  I mean sure, I can get 70fpe out of mine in .22 with only a 30 grain slug.  Heck it would likely do 80fpe if I could fit some heavier lead in there.  However, that particular ammo doesn't shoot well in my gun(even at lower power), so I'm never going to going to realistically use the power I have on tap.  Honestly, 60 fpe is the upper limit of any tune I'd use on my gun.  Just as you mentioned, I've already had to repair the anti-bounce once, haha. 

The biggest benefit the new valve could possibly have for me would be efficiency.  I could crack that balanced valve with zero pre-load, so it should be able to up the efficiency considerably.  I could see the valve not being as hard on that anti-bounce device too.  In other words, there should be benefits to this valve for those of us who don't need more power too.  Of course, this is all theory at this point What do you think Denis?

Now, for the folks that aren't as comfortable modding their gun as us tinkerers are, I could really see a big benefit to them with a balanced valve.

Good points there Rallyshark, if this valve is easily opened and closes faster for better efficiency it would be a great mod . But for shear power it’s not needed, just nicer to cock withought having to use a huge hammer .

 I am into this for smoothing out what Hatsan already has on tap, can not get much lead in the chamber so might as well get the most out of what does fit in there
