Gauntlet, JSA tune kit.

I bought a lightly used Gauntlet .22.  It was shooting JSB 14.35 at about 845 average. Disassembly revealed that the previous owner had installed a Hill Airgun hammer spring/guide kit. The JSA spring is a smaller diameter and i did not have the original guide so I scaled a picture and spun one up on my lathe. Installing the supplied poppet valve was a breeze, anyone could do it. I also set my regulator to about 1300psi.

I adjusted the power setting to the max and first shots were in the 919 range with the 14.35s, high 880s with 15.89 in the mid 850s with 18.13 JSB pellets. Used A LOT of air. I reduced the power adjuster four turns, same velocities, as they remained when  reducing four more turns. Clearly over opening the valve. Four more turns out and the velocities fell off, to 580 with the 18.13.

Two turns in raised it to 846, another 1/4 turn produced 855, where I am leaving it.

With no other adjustments, 15.89s are at 890, 14.35s at 915.

Cocking effort is minimal. All in all, could not be happier. Near 30 ft lbs for $65.00 is a bargain, even though i forgot to use the veterans 10% discount!

How many shots per fill are you getting now and what did it do for accuracy as compared to the stock setup?  Thanks.

I have not done a shot string, and likely will not. I have set it about maximum velocity with the least amount of air. Ihave the long tank, 23ci I believe, and a compressor, Yong Heng, that works great. . I did note that after about thirty shots the guage had hardly moved. It's been very breezy but I will post accuracy results with all three pellets when the wind stops. My range is thirty yards. Prior to the JSA kit it was one hole accurate.

Follow up. No shot strings, but a lot with the 23ci bottle.  I disassembled the gun again a drilled the transfer hole in the barrel to .170. Examining the barrel port from the receiver side revealed that the port did not line up correctly. A little stonework to radius the opening and it looked pretty good.
The chrono said high 937+- with JSB 15.89's.  Backed the adjuster screw out a bit and it almost repeats at 911 fps where I will leave it in the interest of efficiency.

Accuracy off an improvised rest (stack of towels) at 30 yards is dime size. almost as good with 14.3 CPHP.  Will follow up with 50 yard results and farther if justified.

Waiting for your 50 yard groups. Sounds like you have things running very efficiently.

Shot more groups at my 30 yard range. The JSB 14.35 and 15.89 shoot dime size groups still.  From time to time, during the same session the group will shift and center up again. Carefully touching up the lead in and the crown and nothing changed.....At the same range, my Urban and my son's Urban shoot aspirin sized groups, putting the Gauntlet to shame.
About to give up, I called Umarex to order another barrel. The parts guy assured me that it is my air splitter which I had informed him was cracked.

So, no new barrel, but the splitter is on the way, free of charge. We'll see, I'd like it to be as good as the Urban, with a fair bit more energy.
