A friend called today and asked what a mint condition RWS 28 was worth. A guy at his work had one that was 20-30 years old he inherited and it was never shot more than a time or two and in mint condition. I told him mid range would be $150. Then it was offered to me for $100 so I said I would take it. I don't have it yet. I have always like the 34 but was interested in a 28 as I figured they would be a sweeter shooter. FWIW I am more into a sping rifle shoot ability than power. From the pics this one has steel sights with the globe front, a blued steel trigger, and a beech stick with white spacers. I know I got a good deal as it's hard to buy cheapo springers for $100. I have been doing internet searches and can't find much info on the 28. Anyone on one and have some insight? Pellets they like? Velocity, etc.?

I know nothing about the 28. I have a 1969 leather sealed 35 in .177. Its absolute most favorite pellet is the RWS Super Dome. It does have a leather piston seal.
I have a 2000 model Diana 34 with a T01 trigger and synthetic seal. It also loves the RWS Super Dome in .177.
I suggest giving Super Domes a try.

No direct D28 experience but here is a link to the manual on the T05 version. Not sure what you bought but probably older than T05 from your description. My 1996 D24 is a T03. Synthetic seal. It likes all the normal light pellets - JSB 7.33, AA Falcon 7.33, MeisterK. Does not like RWS pellets. Great shooter after slight tune/lube with Williams aperture.
Website below says .177 does 810 FPS so you might use heavier pellets than my lower power D24.

Not much info on the 28. From what I can tell it should be a 700-800fps rifle which is about perfect for a spring rifle. I don't have it yet and it may be a few weeks so I don't have any more info. From the specs I like it more than a 34 but specs aren't real life.

I have only ever handled one model 28, and had it been for sale, I would have bought it on the spot. if you decide it's not for you, you have a ready buyer here.

I have a Diana 28 and it is a sweet little gun. The earlier 28 had a smaller tube and a friend had one and I really liked his. Mine is a later version with the bigger tube. At $100 you got a bargain and I think you will really like it.

If it truly is 30 years old, you may have an example of the last non-unitized trigger systems ever built by DIANA.
Closest thing I can find is an exploded parts diagram for the 27:

If at all possible, use dumb pins when disassembling it.

I found a reference site in the UK with a huge number of air rifles. One can find the whole Diana collection back to the stone ages. DVD delivered for $20. Includes huge amount of air rifle information, books, etc. Well worth it if you are fixated on Dianas. They have others too!
Here's what they had on the 28. Two versions: Original and T05 versions.
