QB78 to HPA? That cap looks like it could just get drilled tapped and nipple?

OK so I am not well versed in how CO2 and air act VS each other.  But I am loving my QB78...except the CO2 Cylinders...  BEST $100 airgun I've ever had. 

It seems to my uneducated thinking that the end cap of the tube can be pretty easily changed to have a quick disconnect nipple sticking out the end.  Then just fill that lil tube with 1200-1400 PSI and get a few shots as a nice light hunting gun.   Maybe even better hunting power cause the air might flow better than the CO2.  Super small volume and pressure so easy to hand pump too.

Seems like the Disco balanced the two gasses, but at 2000psi and 900FPS,  I'd hunt nutters at 750fps in a heartbeat...

What am I missing in my thinking? Or did I just not find the guy selling the cap already when I searched?

Anyone do some basic machining and wanna make me one if I am on track in my thinking?

I have a newer (long cap) .177 standard but would drop $100 for a deluxe .22 in a heartbeat if I could get one cap for both guns if it works.... even at the same speed as CO2

Although something not sanctioned...so if you do it, are on your own if something really bad happens...are folks that have run QB 78's on mild pressure air (likie your 1200-1400psi) and lived (unmangled) to tell the tale.


Use to come (way-back when) with a bulk fill end cap.  Considrting summer temp. co2 could easily get to 1200psi (or a lot more) some folks figured that using air would be no more stressfu7l to the system than Mid. August heat and co2.

Am not sure that's true....but I did a short test any way.


"Few"shots is true....maybe 5 or 6 "useful" shots when tuned for co2 (more if retuned for air).

Air just isn't co2, it flows though a valve system much faster than co2 at the same pressure...which drops the tube pressure considerably with each shot.   Co2 has that self-regulating aspect, when as you use the gas co2 for a shot, the liquid co2 automatically converts to gas and keeps the same pressure (so long as temperature is the same).


I still can't recommend it....not real thrilled with the possible metal of the co2 tubes (although seem to be OK up to hot weather co2 use)and the end cap's fitting (just a thin outside locking collar) are suspect.


So it's more a matter of "Yes, it can be done" vs. "No, you really shouldn't".

Got that!      Thx. the shot count info was around what I'd guessed and I forgot to ask.  4 bushy tail = 1 stew.  So that's OK.
