Crosman Model 766 not functioning.

I usually replace the brass valve stem with one I make from Delrin.
It's a harder material than the stock stem or the white replacement.
Works good for high pressure guns.

In your case I would use the new white stem unless you have a desire to keep it original.

Is the replacement valve cap brass or aluminum?

Well the good news was that I was able to get it off but the bad news I screwed it up doing so. However I was able to order another to replace it. I have one other question. The replacement seal kit came with a  new exhaust valve with a plastic end and the old one had a brass one that looks fine. Would the brass one be better to use vs the new one. Thanks for the help. gh

I rebuilt my 1st var. 766 and 2200 with plastic exhaust valves. My opinion is the modern plastic poppets are probably more durable and longer lasting than the rubber sealing surface on the older brass poppets. But I defer to the more experienced members if they disagree.

Thanks tack driver and danD. The valve cap replacement is brass. It will probably take a week to get here. I will probably use the new valve stem since that's the reason I bought it. I'm sure it will outlast me as I'm getting up there re: my age. I do enjoy tinkering around with old things though and bringing them back to life.
