Pellet tests with LW Polygon in Bullboss .22!(kinda long)

Okay guys, I got a chance to do some proper testing of the LW Polygon I put in the Bullboss a few months back.  I haven't been able to find a good test anywhere with a lot of pellets in one of the polygon barrels, so I did one.  Hopefully, it will help others who are considering a polygon.  I tested EVERY pellet I had "in stock", with the exception of the GTO, because they would have been supersonic.  All in all, I tested 19 different pellets!

First of all, EXCUSES for my shooting   The groups are only as good as I could shoot today.  I was having a hard time seeing the cross hairs on the dark targets in the shade, and I was using a fixed 10X SWFA with the moa quad reticle(very fine).  That scope is great 99% of the time, but not so much for long shooting sessions on dark targets. The gun/barrel is more accurate than I was shooting.  I know I pulled quite a few, and then there's the maintaining concentration for that many 5 shot groups part.  There are a few that should have been 1 hole, and many that should have been close to it.  I probably shot around 30 five shot groups in one sitting, so...

I turned up the wick a little, since everyone I've spoken to says the polygons like speed.  All of the 35fpe shots were with my regulated cylinder, and the 52fpe shots were with my unregulated short cylinder.  Just for reference the 18-ish gr pellets were shooting in the 930s with the 35fpe tune, and the 25.4 gr pellets were in the 960s with the 52fpe tune.  I took pictures of all of the targets and put all of them into one picture that should tell most of the story(click on it to see full size).  Make of it what you will  

The biggest surprise of the test to me was how badly the "new" H&N Hunter Extremes, and JSB Monster Stratons shot.  The other surprise was how well the H&N Power 21.14 copper plated pellets did.  The best hollow point remains the H&N Hunter 18.21, and it was still holding up quite well at 50 yards.  I tested all at 30 yards with 5 shot groups, and some at 50 yards with 5 shot groups.  Overall, the polygon has proven to be hunting accurate for a majority of the pellets tested.

Unfortunately you   did not test JSB heavy ( .22 /18gr ) which are word wide  etalon for all calibres  (.177/10gr, .22/18gr .25/..gr  )  I think.
The grouping of Monster REDESIGNED was really nice   however pellet  spiralling at .22  start obviously behind 50-60 yd. 

Do you use next  choked barrel ?

That's some mighty nice shooting Donny !!! What is the twist rate in .22.  The other day I was shooting the boat tails I was casting and they really surprised me in the consistent accuracy I was getting from them. The barrel on my SPA M16 is a 1 in 20" twist.  I know that AustinB used those barrel's on three rifles, .177, .22 & .25, I'm sure you've probably seen that thread he did on the M16 bottled version.

I didn't use the 18.1, because my gun hates them.  I cannot get those pellets to shoot for anything out of my gun.  The factory barrel didn't like them either.  The last two tins of them I bought, ended up being used for the chronograph,lol!  You are correct about the spiralling, so I still need to do some testing at over 50 yards.  At least the initial tests are promising.  I do have the choked polygon barrel.

The twist rate in the barrel is 1 in 17.7 Wayne.  I did see that thread!  I would love to get my hands on some the BBT to test.  I don't want to get into casting though.  I wish I could just order some, like I order a tin of pellets!  These Hatsan magazines don't leave a lot of wiggle room for big pellets, but I know the BBT will fit.  I wish it could hold the 34gr beasts too  

A lot of those groups are only loosely representative of how well the pellets shoot in that barrel.  I really wasn't shooting very well yesterday.  Most pellets are certainly minute of squirrel accurate for sure, haha.  The redesigned monsters are certainly minute of piggy noggin accurate.

Therefore I was really shocked when I tasted   them now    from my .177 choked  LW 605x15mm TR 1:17.7” barrel after  adding CF stiffening tubes.  Before adding stiffening CF tubes the Monsters  was 1.5MOA and Heavy was 1MOA. After adding CF tubes Monsters are 1.3MOA but Heavy are 5MOA at 77 yd.

Therefore I was really shocked when I tasted   them now    from my .177 choked  LW 605x15mm TR 1:17.7” barrel after  adding CF stiffening tubes.  Before adding stiffening CF tubes the Monsters  was 1.5MOA and Heavy was 1MOA. After adding CF tubes Monsters are 1.3MOA but Heavy are 5MOA at 77 yd.

Is the CF tube free floating or did you epoxy it to the barrel?  Is there a tensioner nut at the end?

Well, with those pellets, it is closer to a 33fpe tune, but they are moving around 1020fps or so.  With the heavier pellets is more like a 36fpe tune...  It is just easier to say a 35fpe tune, instead of posting all the velocities etc.  Surprisingly, I've seen the Crosman Domes do pretty well shooting at 1000fps out of a few guns.

I feel your pain man!  A lot of times when we "upgrade" our guns, they decide they like different pellets.

CF tube is fixed by Loctite and a litel bit tensioning is done only via LDC
