Now I have an extra sitting around and wondering about converting it to a .30
Any thoughts, advise, comments?

It would not bother me if I have to make it a single shot. I'd just make a single shot tray or something.
Then remove the magazine rotation stuff.

I'm not worried about shot count just thinking about doing something different.

If removing the indexing parts I would try to stuff a bulldog mag into it . A side lever .30 cal at44 would be quite the accomplishment.

TJ's has a 1-10 twist and offers Bob's 1-26 twist.
Which may be the better given I want power and don't care about shot count?

Had thought about it.

Pretty sure I could fit a barrel and make a bolt (or adapt a .25 bolt), but would be hard pressed for a mag. Not really enough "beef" in a .25 mag to bore it out to .30, so would be a single shot....and it wasn't so fast/high energy a .25 to think it would make a high powered .30.

Ended up just leaving it as a .25 and trying heavier weight .25 pellets. Almost certainly a .30's bigger base area would have ended up with more velocity/energy, but I'm not sure it would have really brought it up in weight class.

Then again...I do like moderate speed big heavy slugs for moderate range...and I do like big fat pellets...so I haven't given up on the idea, just that I don't have mega-power expectations.

Exactly my thoughts.
I don't expect it will ever rock the world as a .30 but since it's here? I'm thinking why not?
I don't have a problem with it being a single shot and dumping the magazine. Sometimes We can't have it all.

Besides. I have 2 .25's now. The Nova and the other AT44 long .25

TJ's barrels are 1/2" O.D. So I'd suspect a carbon fiber sleeve may be needed? As the stock Hatsan barrels are much thicker.

Looking at how far the arm pulls the probe back, I'm thinking a Magazine like the Mrod could work.
If not a modded one then a custom one.
There appears to be room to open the loading area for a thicker magazine.

You can probably get Mike at TJ's to make a .30 cal pellet barrel (0.293" land & 0.300" groove) larger than 1/2" OD, call him and ask.... the 26" twist, AFAIK, is the only one he has.... All the other .30 cal barrels are .300 land and .308 groove PB barrels, and you can get 8, 10, 14 and 20" in that, but for bullets only, and IMO a bit much to ask from an AT44....

what about getting a hatsan 30 cal barrel , aren't they cheap ?

They would be machined to fit the larger BT65 Action.... not sure but I don't think it would be a drop-in for the AT44....

yea, I just figured since it was a pellet barrel it was more appropriate for the conversion.. machining would be required either way/..I saw them for 89 dollars once, and I'm not sure where.. spent some time looking to no avail

Good price.... FYI, Sean Pero and I designed the 26" twist .30 cal pellet barrel for TJ's.... It's the one Tim @ Mac1 used to win the EBR a few years ago....

ok , I thought it was a bullet only barrel.. So , as long as he can get the machining done , either will suffice.. id be curious to see the 25 cal mag .. I'm guessing on a rotary table it could be bored to .300.. not sure though.. or just adapt the 30 cal hatsan mag to the at44

The .25 cal mag is 9 shots, I think the largest you could accommodate within the diameter of an AT44 mag would be 8 shots.... but I no longer have one here to measure, my son has my gun....

The BT65 .30 and .35 magazines are a bit thicker then the AT44 magazines.
And a bit larger in diameter. Not by much though.
I have the .35 but might buy a .30 magazine to compare.
The .25 and down to the .177 AT44 fits the BT65's of the same cal.
IF one could be fitted it would still leave the problem of indexing on cocking.

There is no room to bore the .25 to a .30

Got the donor .25 all tore down and with the GTA thing just a few days away?
I'll probably be bothering Lloyd real bad about this build.

Gonna take the breech and the .25 barrel with me to talk about a few things.
It will be a TJ barrel that Bob had a hand in designing.

I'll probably do a carbon sleeve and bore the breech for that.
I can go back to the pin that holds the magazine spring in or maybe a tad farther.
Seeing how thick the Hatsan barrels are but not sunk into the breech? I have to wonder why? Harmonics?

I think the sleeving should only butt up the breech and not go inside.. the reason is , the set screws would have nothing to bite down on , I guess Bob whos done it before will know for sure

We can go into the breech just till We get to the Magazine guide spring retaining pin. Like 1/4" or so?
That does not interfere with the barrel set screws. Maybe a bit further.
The barrels on the Hatsans are quite thick as is but do not mount into the breech.
The .25 barrel is under a 1/2" If we bore to the 1/2" as the TJ barrel comes. We avoid doing some work on the barrel itself.
The sleeve would be to strengthen that 1/2" barrel like Hatsan does.
Is it really needed? I don't know at this time.
If We bore the breech and not machine the barrel we need some kind of stop anyway.

The breech needs some machine work to fit them but it will work.
