Marauder .25 Gen 1 important upgrades?

I have a gen 1 Marauder .25 that I bought back in 2010 right after they were introduced, I went on to add an LDC and an extended air chamber.  Then late in 2010 I suffered a debilitating accident, the Marauder and many of my other guns sat in my gun safe for years, and it has only been in the last year or two that I have recovered enough to once again consider using it.  So that bring me up to the big question, what must do mods have came out in the last 7-8 years for the Marauder?  I am not looking to trick it out, just to fill in the gaps, improve general performance, etc.

The TSS from ART would be where I would start. Much easier to tune and much higher shot count.

That is the only one I would consider "important", because it makes the rifle considerably more efficient and a little quieter without sacrificing power.  Everything else will have diminishing returns for the time and cost involved.  A depinger might be appreciated, they are cheap and easy to install. They make no change in how the gun shoots beside the sound it creates in the air chamber, so even it is optional.

The .25 Marauder is a great rifle in gen1 or gen2, go have some fun with it!

Isaac, welcome back to the "airgunning hobby ". My Gen 1 .25 Marauder about 2010-2011 model is still holding air and was wondering if I should lube the O rings. The Marauder is still one of the best and simplest gun to disassemble and assemble or modify. I admit I was apprehensive at first but now I can disable and assemble it with one eye closed.

I agree on the TSS if setup and used to remove preload from the hammer, otherwise no difference.


I would also add a couple of easy and free mods too:

• Removal of the lawyer spring in the trigger to make it like a "Match Grade" trigger.
• Drill out the holes in the air stripper bigger to make it a little more quieter.

Yes, drilling out the holes works on both generations.  Making the holes bigger allows more of the initial air charge to expand back into the shroud, before reversing direction and eventually working its way out the muzzle cap. It makes a noticeable reduction in sound level.

Also, on taking a gun apart to lube the o-rings: there is no need for that.  If the gun is holding air, it will likely continue to do so. In fact, taking it apart and then reassembling with the old o-rings, even freshly lubed, is a good way to cause it to leak.  I almost always replace all the tube sealing o-rings whenever I disassemble the gun unless they are very new (sometimes there is a leak and we need to redo it) and I know I did not nick the one in question at all when I put it together.  O-rings are cheap, as long as you aren't buying one at a time.  By a pack of 100 for about $10 and then never worry about having one when you need it again - as long as you can remember where you put them!

If you want to take it apart to inspect the inside of the reservoir - not a bad idea on an older gun, especially if you hand pump - then do so.  Just be prepared to replace the o-rings.

I think I go .200 on the holes, and between this and the TSS it has the noise output of a .22

Regulators are nice but there is a lot more to it than just plopping in a regulator.  To do it right requires better air flow from the valve and ports to the pellet skirt.  I would do some research first before deciding to regulate to see if you are willing to spend the money and take those additional steps.

When I was new to pcp, I thought the "Regulator" is the single magic pixie dust or the holy grail of air gunning. And I thought really I have to do this to that , buy this buy that and why just buy a factory built regulated gun? But I also found out that shooting airguns is 100% fun and modding is the other 100% fun. And that is why Im addicted .

  I just had a regulator installed in my 25 Mrod and it made all the difference in the shot string and it appears to have helped in accuracy also.i getting 26 shots around 875fps with the 25.39 JSBs.no magic just hard work and money that's why it the dark side.

With just the TSS I get 24 shots 860-880-860. I spent possibly 10 minutes at most fine tuning. I also shoot the JSB 25.-- grain pellets. I know that there are guys getting 4 magazines with out much more Es.

I have only run a couple of tunes with the 25.39s.  I mainly shoot the 34gr.  Looking at my tuning notes using the 25.39gr, I was able to get 43 shots within a 4% ES averaging 849 FPS or 40.65 FPE.  With another tune I did I got 35 shots within a 2% ES averaging 853 FPS or 41.03 FPE.  Both tunes were Huma regulated and using the Hill valve.

Depending on what your injury was, the lightweight tube from JSA is definitely worth considering.  It does remove 1.5lbs.  You would need a MDS hammer to go with that. 

Other mods to consider:

- Gen II: Baffles and spring, from crosman parts, about $12-14
- Cross-flow depinger from JSA, if not going to a regulator, < $30

With TSS, MDS, etc, may not need that heavy res ext, to get equivalent shot count 

If the 2x4 stock is an issue for you, Boyd's has some inletted for Gen 1 Mrod, but modding and refinishing the oem stock is more cost effective.

We just dropped our depingers to $15
