Fine Tuning Scope Adjustments

Lately I have been spending a lot of time shooting at playing cards, vertically and horizontally on edge.
It has occurred to me that shooting at the cards in this matter it becomes a simple matter to make fine adjustments to our vertical and horizontal scope adjustments as you can see clearly the edge of the card and where the pellet impacts in reference to that edge if, you have a backstop to show the impact.

I suppose one could draw a vertical or horizontal line on the target accomplish the same thing but then you wouldn’t have the fun of splitting the cards, huh?

Just a suggestion.

How do you hold the cards? Do you have pictures of your setup?

I cut grooves into a hunk of 2X4.
I put the block of wood with the cards in front of my target holder.
Here is a picture.....

BTW Annie Oakley could split the cards with a .22lr rifle using open sights at....30 yards

I like shooting real matchsticks but found in my target collection, a matchstick target in pdf form. I am attaching it here should anyone care to try it.

Cut with my Cricket compact 177 at 40 yards.
I used a plastic mirror at an angle to the side view of the cards to see though my scope if it was cutting between shots.

The cards arent hard to cut. IF and bloody big IF, you can see them.

Which makes Ms. Oakley's shots even more impressive, now that Ive tried it at just 10 yards, with a scope, using my very accurate D75........ even at 12x at 10 yards, the card edge is tuff to see.

Dan_house I run a black marker on the edge of the cards I shot. Makes it easy to see.  Craig

  My eyes will never be able to shoot cards, or matches, again.

  My grandfather used to do that with a little " Remington Rolling Block .22 rifle . " He could strike a match quite often, too . He had a block of wood with wooden clothes pins screwed down to it. The pins would hold matches, cards, etc.
