I've had three Daystates, and have kept a Regal XL in .22 cal. I agree they are absolutely handsome rifles (probably the prettiest PCP I own), and handy to use, too.I've seen two people use Regals to good results in FT (even a State Championship). Our multiple State Championship and Nationally ranked OPEN Class shooter here in Texas has shot with a (regulated) Daystate Grand Prix for many years. But you are right, not many Regals are used on a regular basis. The reason I have only the Regal remaining is that I found the other Daystates not to be as accurate as advertised. Both of those were .22 cal, and very picky concerning the one or two pellets they would shoot well. I suspect that a Regal in .177 cal might not be as picky, and may be more accurate. But I also suspect that the lightweight rifles (like the Regal, CZ200s, others) make them less accepted than heavier airguns that some consider easier to control. Old wives tales, probably, but who knows? All that noted, if you like the Regal and want to give it a try, by all means do so.
To echo Scott, Fred B. shot with me at the last Concord match and was lethal with his Daystate. He shot HFT and just about cleaned the course. He's very talented, so YMMV?
