Eric Henderson and Alan Cain from TPWD got together to do some research into changing Texas hunting laws.

A shame the fellow didn't know where proper shot placement is. The shoulder shot is for breaking down dangerous game. Such as Cape buffalo.  Not game meant for eating. Usually, no vitals are hit, making for a lot of  adrenaline in the meat. That, and usually a fairly long track.

Hunters have been wrongly taught this shot for decades. Back when I owned an Archery shop, I had So Many hunters tell me horror stories of lost deer, and broken arrows from the same shot.

Any deer, not wanting it to be mounted can be dropped in its tracks. Period. If the guy on the trigger can shoot that is LOL!!!

The point of this was to convince the powers that be that airguns have the power to take game animals cleanly. These are mostly gun hunters and are used to shoulder/chest shots. By useing the same shot placement and seeing the results, hopefully next year airgunners in TX can hunt some other "game" animal other than squirrel. Yes, I know we can use them on pigs, varmints and exotics but would like to see deer, javelina, and turkey added.

That's a great thing they are doing.  I wish every state did the same "research". 

The shoulder shot was well placed and very lethal considering it was 120 yards with an air rifle.  Besides, it seems to me that they are "testing" shots from different angles to see if it will take the deer down humanely or quickly.  I am also certain he was doing it on purpose to see the penetration results. 

I probably would have used a .357 or .45 Texan on deer, but the .308 performed surprisingly well.  I wish he would have said what type of slug he was using.
