I was looking at my friends auction wins and I'm stumped. The bottom 760 tagged #2. I can't find a serial number and I'm not sure if the grooved forearm grip is original. I also included a picture of the pump arm and a good view of the body. He also bought a 130, a 20th anniversary 760 (1984?) and a 766 that may be to young for this forum

Oops it's a "powemaster"
I did some searching on eBay and found some print ads. The ads from '69 and '70 show the forearm grip with the vertical lines. The ad from '71 shows a checked forearm. I looked on crosman' site and the first variant was made '66-'70.
So it looks like we have a first variant 760 I read on another thread that the earliest ones had a rifled barrell. I guess we'll have to take a look

Yes, " #2" is definitely a 1966-'70 Variant one 760 Powermaster. Smoothbore .177 in Crosman's version of it. The 760-761xl's had brass plated receivers and rifled barrels. Otherwise, the same rifle. I got a NOS 761xl rifled barrel from Mike Baker in MT with a huge pile of Crosman NOS parts. Get in touch with him @ peter_built78@hotmail.com. Looks all original too, like mine, stamped on the pump end cap as, " 68", meaning build date of June 1968.
