Setra AS1000 cal. 177

    I present to the multi-pump carbine Setra ... made in Spain. It was manufactured in the years 60/70 by the catalan businessman Mr. Artés de Arcos. Surely it will be very familiar, because it was a blatant copy of the Sheridan model C.De she was made several versions, this has a barrel rifled in 4.5mm. There was another model driven by co2 and other so many - also multipombeo- with smooth barrel. These last in gauge 6 and 7.35 mm loaded plastic cartridges with several grains of lead number 10.The body and welded gun made in brass, and single-time trigger non-adjustable. They accepted up to 8 pumping.
    It was a rare carbine in Spain for its high price, compared to the price of dock and piston carbines made in Spain during those years. And it was quite more efficient in power and precision than these.This came into my hands with the varnish of the wood in bad condition and without compression in the valve.It had another blow on the edge of the barrel that affected the crown.
     My restoration:
-Removing and cleaning all metal parts.
- Dismantling of wood, pickling and sanding. Finished with several hands, the oil of linseed and fine sandpaper. and beeswax with turpentine essence for finalizary and polished with cotton cloth.Lo that let see the veins of Spanish beech in which it was made.
-He removed the deformation of the blow on the edge of the barrel and made a new crown. It was thoroughly cleaned the inside with its stretch marks.
-The entire pumping chamber, which was filled with dry automotive oil, was cleaned.
-The plunger was replaced with a new one.
- Disassembled and cleaned valve area. Changing all damaged valve components from new USA (tool to remove valve included): Non-return pin, needle, needle spring, o.rings, lead seal and air outlet section.
-It improved the feel of the trigger to make it more sensitive, polishing in the mirror and changing the spring for a somewhat softer.
-I used a new hammer spring."
    And it was ready again to shoot accurately. My work had as final the effective shot, not the exhibition of the weapon for museum. That is why I put a viewer of 3/9 x 40mm.Getting the best  groups in all the distances between the 6 / 8 pumping firing JSB exact heavy ball to 198 mxsg or something else.

they're nice copies of a thumb safety dan I have a .22 version
sadly original finish has been polished back to brass and wood work has been painted ,on my list to strip and refinish though along with a few little issues

Those who do not have respect for antiques believe that the brass pavón is painted. And they prefer to remove it entirely to replace it. And they remove the old varnish and put a new one or treat the oil with the wood ... they sand on the old varnish and give a coat of paint. A pity.
     I have a Setra Super MG cali. 6mm, smooth-barreled, bought second-hand. It could shoot bullets or pellet cartridges. After restoring the entire valve system, metal and wood. And to make it shoot 6.35 gauge calibers recalibrated to 6mm. shoot, something broke inside, a crack in the soldered valve body? ... I dismantled it and reassembled many times, all the components of the valve were perfect.
     I could not guess why it does not fill the valve when pumping.Buy a small camera to see the inside of the cylinder, but I do not know how to make it work.

was just checking mine and had to swap hammer spring out as it was a tad over our limit
I bought it last year adjusted the pump piston so it had no head space and put it in the rack intending to put it over the chrono but forgot
was shooting my 347 over the chrono after I resealed it a week or so ago and your post jogged my memory
the result was I have to find a new blow of valve spring as it was sealed up solid and was shooting 20gr's at 700 fps  - quickly removed hammer spring and fitted a 2200 one with a bit of a shim
so now need to fix safety wasn't working when I got it and either make an internal spring adjuster or fix the valve pressure relief valve
shame your not in the UK I'd like to have a look at the super mg
the as2000 looks an interesting gun as well

   A preciousness. The silver color is because the metals have been chromed? In the original versions the trigger guard is made of black plastic, so it looks a much more luxurious weapon.
I can not even put external links to this forum, when I can do it, I will put some Spanish articles on this weapon. Very few units were made of them. A few of them were exported to UK.
     In Pozoblanco, where I now reside, was the owner of the Setra Super MG brand: I had his house next to that of my mother-in-law. The weapons were manufactured in Barcelona and in Pozoblanco he manufactured his pellets and his pellet cartridges.
   he was very old and retired when I arrived in his city 18 years ago, but still through a window of his house you could see the living room of his small armory and some weapons.

the guard on mine is made from aluminium the original which I have was slightly damaged,the breech and foresight are polished aluminium as well but I am short one screw for the foresight -need to check other screws to see if it uses metric or imperial
