Spraying forearm & Pistol Grip w/Plasti Dip?

Hey Guys,
Refinished my Diana Stormrider using Varathane one-step - Peacan color.  The stock looks very good, except the forearm grip which was somewhat sanded off with just 220 paper.  Because the forearm grip has partially disappeared on the left, I was going to try masking off the stock and spraying the forearm/pistol grips with Plasti Dip spray.

I was hoping this would 1) give me better grip on the gun and 2) cover up the fact that the forearm grip looks a little funky.  The basic problem with the stock is for $200, Diana doesn't do much more than a superficial checkering job.  The stock is a pretty decent piece of beech that looks good with the butter orange, Peacon coloration and black grips would be a great contrast.

Has anyone tried using Plasti Dip on a gun stock?
I'm hoping it will look good, but maybe this is a mistake .

Any comments are appreciated .

Never tried Plasti-Dip but I have used the Duplicolor clear truck bed liner and it works very nicely. Gives you a nice grip and helps hide minor imperfections as it gives a rippled finish. Should work just as well on wood as it has the synthetic stock I used it on.

I just don't want the Plasti Grip to react negatively with my Varathane one-step finish and bubble it up .
I'm hoping the new grip highlights the stock similar to the HW98.

I sprayed it over Krylon satin black and the grey sections are Testors Flat enamel done with a brush. You might try the Varathane on a piece of scrap wood first then spray the bedliner and see how it reacts but I'd think it should work just fine.

The Plasti Dip looked great, but when I pulled off my blue masking tape, all the rubber covering my grips just pealed off with the tape.  Definitely, a harmless, but time consuming disaster .

its designed to come off fairly easy.....  my first thought was to scuff the finish for some adhesion, but IIRC youve just redone it.....
TBL would be better (and FlexSeal--yes Phil Swift just got invoked--comes in colors...)
