Thanks to you all.  Along with the already-ordered cleaning kit/pellets/pellgun/targets, I now need choosing the optic, building a pellet trap, etc. what a hobby…

I’ll head into the optics section for some inspiration; that 2x T-Eagle will take 2 months. 

Aside: one benefit of the pandemic was culinary expression. We now make killer Neapolitan and NY-style pies; eat your heart out Tony’s SF.

I have quite a few fixed 4x scopes that I got off Amazon for around $20. I've found 4x to be perfect for most of my needs around home.

If you end up doing mostly target shooting, there are some relatively simple mods (hammer spring and/or bstaley mod) that can double the shot count with some reduction in power.

The BStaley mod is not as cut and dried in this gun as it is in many others. The poppet stem is way short in these guns. You cannot stack orings in it.... no room. The other issue is the shape of the hammer. You have the front of the hammer and then there is a shoulder. An oring will slip over that shoulder.
One solution would be to cut a piece out of a bicycle inner tube the size of the valve and put a hole in it for the poppet stem. Then glue it to the face of the valve.
Pellet Junkie (Frank) is the man. He turned me a new TP with a conical port hole. The smaller at the top. This custom TP and adjusting the length of the hammer spring yielded a nice bell curved shot string.
More tuning could be done for a higher shot count but I am happy with the results. 2 CARM mags per fill.

Was going to order a Chaser carbine to save about 2 pounds of weight and get shorter for my wife  (who is still larger than a kid).

Realized the old SPA 600W is the same “guts’ in a different package….a lighter and shorter stocked package, but the same running gear.

You may think it’s different enough to NOT have opinions about the Chaser...but it turns on all the same “guts”, has the same long barrel, and I’d expect the accuracy/power to be the same.

Same striker assembly, same breech, same magazines, same barrel, same valve, same 1 12gr jammed into a valve seal.   Shorter tube and a much different/lighter plastic stock on the Chaser.

The 600W has been in use for about 6 years...know a bit about the one 12gr. SPA system.

Only repair on the 600w was this year, need a new 12gr seal after nearly 6 years.  Partly because if there is any noise, can’t hear the 12gr seal and pop open while you tighten...so I tended to over tighten.

There is a “wall” you will not pass in velocity.  It runs on the co2 that is in the valve volume, refills too slowly to add more useful gas during a shot. Smack it harder, and nothing good happens.

Co2 has to pass though the tiny hole in the piercing pin to get into the valve.   Valve volume is tiny. I’d not plan on a really powerful co2 rifle without some more serious mods than fiddling with the striker spring.

For the original poster, this might be good news.  The Chaser usually comes out the box shooting slow, but a lot of shots per 12gr. Changing the power “up” reduces that shot count….but the accuracy stays the same.  Past 9-10 foot pounds, the .177 version can get co2-wasteful.

Yes, I've read quite a bit about hammer springs/debouncers, opening up ports, etc.  For now, we'll just clean the barrel, adjust the trigger (it's a bit heavy and gritty), learn to shoot it.  Speaking of which...



It Arrived!!  ETA was Thursday, so a pleasant surprise.  Excuse my ugly mug, we've been working in the yard. 

So, Job#1 is cleaning the short barrel.  Job #2 is moving the moderator to the short barrel.  I've read some use a vise (don't have), others soak the barrel in hot water, others heat w/ a hair dryer or heat gun (have this).  What has worked for you all?

Edit:  Tried posting a photo, clearly failed.  I'd think I drag and drop it, hit the photo link.  Correct?

You could save yourself the headache removing the LDC from the long barrel by getting a second LDC from Buck-rail.

Thanks.  We might do that for the long barrel, if we decide keeping it.  I've read the stock moderator can be quieter than Troy's excellently-priced piece, on this gun.  In any case, worth the $20 flyer.

Got the moderator off, an easy quick-soak, towel wrapped around moderator, pliers.  Hope it's as easy for others.
