Pros and cons of Beeman B78, Umarex Fusion and Flying Dragon Xs60c

I'm still trying to decide, so I'm throwing this out there to get some opinions and pros and cons of each.  I can get a good deal on the Beeman B78 at PA with their Birthday Sale.  The B78 and XS-60c have hardwood stocks, but the Fusion has the sound suppressor which is a plus to me.  The Fusion is $139.99 shipped, the XS-60c is $120 shipped and the B78 is $103.99 shipped.  So which gives the most band for the buck?  Which ever I get will be a .177.  Thanks...

Paul not the pro on this co2 stuff like other forum members but my 78 is the most accurate air rifle I own period. After dinner tonight just plinking at my bench aimed at old target at twenty five yards aimed at a existing pellet hole and put two in the same hole. I have done some basic power mods and it's shooting 670 to 680 range. Plus just a well made and finished gun. My two cents worth. I forgot to mention it is a killing machine out to twenty five yards. Had a run on ground squirrels the other day from 15 to 30 yards in a old pile of tree pruning. Went 15 straight before a miss. No b.s..    Mike

I have the Fusion, it is quiet from the get go, accurate and hard hitting out to 40yds. I trim old pinecones with it. The only problem that I have had with it is the bolt probe orings, the originals didn't last long. They are easy to replace. All three guns that you have mentioned are great guns to have, it just depends on what you want to spend and what it's purpose will be. I purchased mine as a refurb from Field Supply for $99 and $3.99 shipping. Good luck.

I was really leaning more toward the Fusion because I have heard and read how quiet it is, and is is a feature I really like.  It also seems to be rated at a higher FPS than the other two, but I also know that can be very subjective and misleading.  Especially when it's rated at 750 FPS for both PBA and lead pellets. 

So, my delima comes down to deciding if I want quiet (Fusion), custom tuned (XS60c) or inexpensive (B78)?  How customizable are each?  I'm pretty sure I've read there are tons of aftermarket parts for the 78, but what about the others?

I recently bought my son the QB78s, the one with the synthetic thumbhole stock. We're still breaking it in, but talk about fun to shoot. We're getting roughly 60 shots on 2 12grams and like others have mentioned, out to 25 yards it is hole on hole with the cheap CPHP, which is nice since we'll be going thru them now. Noise is hard to say, it is louder than my .177 maximus with LDC, but not loud enough I think we need to add an LDC. My lot size is right at 1 acre with houses on both sides but nothing directly behind me so take it for what its worth. If I had neighbors all around I would want to quieten it down some. Also, if I end up modding for more power, I will also add an LDC at that time, I've heard if you bump the power you'll have a corresponding increase in "pow".

Thanks Todd!  Our lot is roughly ¾ acre with neighbors on both sides and none behind us.  I shoot a variety of springer and gas piston air rifles, so it's not so much the human neighbors I'm concerned with, it's the tiny 4 legged furry ones that seem to hear foot steps from 35 yards away!  Sometimes I can get a shot off, but the sound of the round going off sends them running and at times (depending on which rifle I grabbed) they are gone before the pellet gets to the spot where they were sitting.  So, my goal is stealth and the ability to hit the rat before the rat knows what's coming!

Kris, what's the trigger like on your Fusion?  Is it adjustable?  I wish I had seen the refurb Fusions when Field Supply had them.  That's a really good deal!

Trigger is about 3lbs and does not adjust. The hammer spring can be adjusted some but you have to take the stock off to do it. I kept mine stock and just shoot it as is, it likes the JSB RS pellets the most.  On a warm day I can get about 80 shots with it, 60 shots is about average.

Well  I am a Crosman/Benji  user for many year but have yet to get  (C0² or a springer)... just pcp and pumpers

My main reason for choosing the 2260 is I like to fiddle and customize and parts availability is Crosman's advantage...

So right now the Sheridan 2260MB is 149.99-20% = $120 and if you add enough pellets or accessories to bring it to $150 ships free...

you would have to get a 20$ .177 barrel and bolt but then have .22 and .177..

of course shot count is lower because it only uses one cart at a time... but plenty of mods out there...

  I happen to like 12gr. CO2 rifles...likely becasue I don't push them for power.  Is somthing nice about tossing some 12gr. in one pocket, putting atin of pellets in another, and just heading out the door.  Not too fond of bulk fill Co2 (if i'm going to deal with a tank and fill hole, why not go with PCP) or the expense of 88gr. disposibles.   Do like "tankers", so long s you have a relaible paintball filling station near at hand... which would be the QB79 as no one else bothers with them today.

Have tried the ones you mention, along with a few others.

1. Not too hot on the Fusion.  Never leaked, but had some "on again-off again" accuracy issues with mine that plagued me for a couple of years. Not real pleased with the automatic safety which got in the way of a decent trigger pull...disarming it into a manual safety helped some, but pulling all the safety parts helped the most.  Then the factory LDC developed a little "wiggle" and accuracy went sour...melted the LDC off (it's designed to be on there forever) and added a new LDC.  Thought that cured it, but it went back to it's old on-off accuracy ways.
Give the Fusion credit for actually worlking, not leaking, and the LDC did work...I just couldn't depend on it to shoot well. 

If yours is like most of the ones I've seen posts on, you'll probably like it.

Does have a crappy o-ring on the front end cap that tends to swell....I'd replace that with somthing better.

2. The XS60C was one of the firsts, and I honestly don't know how the current versions handled the safety. Old ones had a safety on the left side of the recievder that wasn't all that reliable, but could arrange to lock it out of play and just ignore it.

No problems...trigger adjusts...has striker spring adjustment...I got talked out of it and moved to the PCP version of the same rifle.


3. Lot of QB's have passed though my hands.  All got modded into other forms, but one got re-modded back to a 12gr shooter (I missed the 12gr. ease). Easy to work on, has trigger adjustments.

4. 2260 (orginals or the current steel brech version).  Good little lite rifles for me.  Only run on one 12gr., so you swap 12gr. more often.  Actually, with a steel breech installed, are a better deal for the average guy than the old 2260's and their plastic breech.  No trigger adjustments (unless you drill/tap them in).

Both #3 and #4 have pages and pages of posts, mods, suggestions, etc.  Either of them seem to be the base gun for all sorts of modded out cencept rifles.

#5. One you have mentioned, which I will, is the MrodAir Varmint (SPA 600W). Evidently replacements parts can be had from SPA, which moves it up a bit.

One 12gr. at a time, but a repeater option (good single shot tray included).  Mine hasen't given me any problems in the time I've had with it, came out the box shooting wel and decently fast for a .177 co2 (more like 10.2 foot pounds with 10.3gr.).

$130 and a repeater. Trigger adjustment (but it's kind of hidden) and feels about as light weight as the 2260. Will veryl ikely want to replace the issue "LDC" as it is a poor performer...but at least you can take it off without a torch.

I have a Flying Dragon XS60C. Though I can't speak to the other guns, I will say that the XS60C is amazing. Incredibly easy to shoot and accurate. Very ergonomic. Easily puts out 13-14 FPE with H&N FTT pellets. Mechanically perfect. Stock is perfect. Operationally perfect. No complaints.

I have a multi-shot CO2, it's the Crosman 1077!  A real quality piece!  But fun to shoot.  I've not heard of the mrodair Plinkster, I may have to research that one!

I have a multi-shot CO2, it's the Crosman 1077!  A real quality piece!  But fun to shoot.  I've not heard of the mrodair Plinkster, I may have to research that one!

I'm a fan, and owner, of all 3.

They can be set up as very light and powerful repeaters, stout and reliable.

"Varminter" would be my choice ($130).


Toned down in speed, it ended up shooting right at 7.7 foot pounds (with it's preferered 10.3gr. pellet) and about  37-38 "good" shots on a single 12gr.



If my intention was to mod it into something else, would likely go with the Crosman or the QB...either of those have well documented posts on how to turn them into nearly anything you can think of (often for more $ than just buying a different rifle to start with, but the cost comes in small bits and many of us like to create various versions).
